FORT WORTH -- A mans legs were severed Thursday afternoon when he attempted to jump off a moving train west of downtown and fell under its wheels.
The man was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital and is expected to survive his injuries, said Lt. Dean Sullivan, police spokesman.
The accident happened shortly after noon on railroad tracks northeast of the intersection of Forest Park Boulevard and Rosedale Street, just north of Jerome Street.
He was trying to get off the train, got caught up in the couplings and, as a result, fell on the track below, Sullivan said. In the process, both of his legs were severed.
Sullivan said it remains unknown whether the man is a transient who had been hopping trains.

He won’t have a leg to stand on.
(I know, it’s old, but someone was gonna say it).

From what I understand, this is actually a fairly common way to get from El Paso (the border) to the other parts of Texas for work. Do we know anything about the citizenship of this man?

They were all in love with dyin'
They were doing it in Texas
Tommy played piano
Like a kid out in the rain
Then he lost his leg in Dallas
He was dancing with a train
They were all in love with dyin'
They were drinking from a fountain
That was pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

Let me be the first to express a different opinion. What a tragedy for this poor man. Being poor, transient, or homeless doesn’t mean he deserves to lose both legs. I can’t imagine the horror he felt.
