From the article...
Others agree. Of 468 employees who responded to Vault's 2007 tattoo and body-piercing survey, 85 percent said, yes, such body decorations impede a candidate's chance of getting the job, a big jump up from the 19 percent who said that in the 2001 survey. Sounds like a whole lot of folks have been introduced to the real world since 2001!
I saw a kid yesterday...actually he was probably in his mid 20's...with huge flames tattooed on the back of his neck that wrap around to his face! It's going to be real hard for him to cover that body 'art' when he applies for a job. I won't even consider hiring anyone with visible tattoes or body piercings. It shows a contempt for decent society and an appalling lack of good judgement. Two qualities that I try not to invite into my office.

A new survey shows that employees are getting the message that plenty of bosses find visible tattoos or body piercings objectionable in the workplace. Makes smart business sense. I sure don't want to spend my money some place where they hire someone stupid enough to get a neck tat.
OTOH, I find Kat Von D kinda hot.

Hmmmm. My husband is a vice president at a Fortune 20 company - at age 36. Last count he has 13 tattoos. None visible in standard business attire, but the higher ups have known he has a bunch for a long time. At his previous job, his boss knew of his tattoos (and a tongue piercing he’s since removed at my request) prior to hiring him.

I hired hundreds of people. Not one had a tattoo, stud or even a ‘small golden earring’ in their ear. One put an earring in his ear after he was hired but, I soon got rid of him.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of convicted murderers and rapists have tatoos. My guess is that the number would be above ninety per cent.

I don't blame companies for wanting to protect their public image and as a customer, I'm more set off by body piercings anywhere in the facial area, than I am tattoos. And it depends on the tattoo as well and where it is located. If the tattoos can be covered, than there isn't an issue, imo.
