As a horse owner this is something I've always feared...

You can always take steps to defend against known and predictable threats. You can't very well protect against random acts of wicked that are just driving by on the road.

Their parents are going to be out a lot of money. I predict no car for these lads on their 16th birthday. Stupid kids.

Kids that would do that makes you wonder what is next for them. To be able to hurt a defenseless animal-probably would have been a person next if not caught.

Considering the photo, maybe they mistook their target for John Kerry...?

Strong believer in the Second Amendment. Strong believer that kids should be taught how to use guns at an early age, even own guns at an early age. But they should always, always be supervised.

Kerry walks into a bar. The bartender ask, why the long face.

On the other hand as a horse owner, I say hang them varmits!

This is sad news to read. Children should be taught proper handling/safety of weapons in my opinion, and earlier in life the better.

We too have horses as several posters have mentioned in this thread, but one not need to have horses to be concerned these children found it acceptable to target those horses.

The children may have been educated, but obviously not disciplined about the safety aspect of weapons handling.

This could morph into more ammo for the Gunban crowd. Most unfortunate.

Same thing happened down in my hometown in rural Virginia last fall. The perps were stupid, drunken teenagers who thought that it would be funny to shoot over fifteen horses with a .22, killing four of them. The perps were quickly caught and are now facing serious jail time after being tried as adults.

I agree. Crimes like this really disturb me. Why on earth would they want to do something like this?

Stupid, unsupervised kids. Kids with gun smarts would never do such a thing.

The little b^stard$ should be shot in the a$$ with a 22, then asked “How did that feel?”

Yeah - we've kindof gotten away from the 'eye for an eye' concept, and perhaps we'd have better deterrence if we brought it back.

It’s strange what some kids think of as funny. A few years ago some graduating seniors thought it would be funny to run their car around and through our wheat field (which was ready to harvest). Unfortunately for them, their license plate fell off in the field, in plain sight right in one of their tire tracks.

The gun-control Nazi’s will be all over this one too.

What a shame.

I hope the horse owners sue the pants off of these kids parents! And I DEFINATELY hope that they get some form of community service where they have to work with horses as part of their sentence. They need to realize that horses are not just some big unfeeling form of recreational vehicle that can be treated with cruelty and then forgotten about.
