MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- The curse of No. 2 claimed another victim.
West Virginia is out of the national title race. Ohio State is in.
In a season defined by upsets, Pittsburgh came up with an enormous one, beating the second-ranked Mountaineers 13-9 Saturday night to throw another curveball at the BCS.
A win away from playing for the national championship, the Mountaineers were expected to roll over rival Pittsburgh (5-7) on their way to New Orleans for the Bowl Championship Series title game.

You guys should be fired into orbit for that disaster. At least the Steelers could blame a lousy field for their performance last week.
And it is all over for #1 Missouri....what a mess.
OSU vs. Hawaii/LSU/Kansas/Georgia? for the national championship.
Hey Lou Holtz even gave Pitt’s Dee (no. 11 in the country) kudos. They played a great game! (And I wanted WVU to win!)
If not for Oklahoma’s QB suffering a concussion in the Texas Tech game ..... OU would be in the final. They’re really good when he’s in there.
Playoff system needed badly, Illinois Fighting Illini go to a BCS bowl in Pasedena v USC
It should be Oklahoma and Ohio State....
It will be Ohio State vs. one of Georgia/Virginia Tech/LSU
Mess? This is the joy of College Football. And proves any day any team can beat the next. Come on Playoffs.
College football season offically ended for me today. WVU choked, and Notre Dame has consistently sucked the whole season.
Well, at least my Steelers are having a decent year.
Yep, VA Tech has a chance to squeeze in there.
Going to the Steeler game tomorrow night...freezing rain here (Pgh. area) right now...changing to snow...back to rain. It will be a good field :)
LSU 48 Virginia Tech 7......NOT A CHANCE
see post 13
West Virginia missed 2 short FG, had QB get injured. How can a team that loses to S. Florida and Pitt be this close to the National title game. Who did they beat?
I’m a Big Ten fan but who did Ohio State beat this year. LSU played a killer schedule and lost 2 games in 30T’s on the road. Kansas played Missouri and lost, didn’t play Oklahoma, Texas or Texas Tech.
I think Georgia v LSU or Virginia Tech would be the best national game at this point.
True, the BCS computer might have a problem with that particular game. Probably Georgia then.
I’d rather Oklahoma played a Ohio State... or a USC. We’ll kill Kansas. I’d rather play a top team.
Georgia didn’t even win their own conference. No, gotta support conf. champs.
But GA is the 2nd-ranked team in the BCS rankings (after Ohio St.) now that the top two lost today. Obviously the whole system is messed up — 8-team playoff much needed.
