This just ran across the ESPN News scroll...
"A source close to a former Yankees strength trainer tells ESPN The Magazine's Shawn Assael that the trainer told Mitchell investigators he supplied Roger Clemens with steroids; information supplied by this trainer is in the Mitchell report. According to one industry official who spoke to [the] Bergen Record, 'several' prominent Yankees will be named in the Mitchell report."

Because that’s his job. Well OK his job was to give Selig a reason to kick Bonds out of the league before he broke the record, but having blown that deadline Mitchell’s job is to come out with the whole report and name lots of names. Comfortably in the off season so the whole thing will be old boring news by the time pitchers and catchers report. This is basically finding a way to officially “end” the steroid era in baseball, of course it won’t really end it but at Selig will be able to declare the facts are in and it’s time for MLB to move on.
Another name that Mitchell b&$*#d will out: Roy Hobbs
Roger is an idiot. His jump to Toronto for money and then his “I’m retiring/I’m playing” of the past 3 seasons has tarnished his now steroid-aided career.
The only one that I can think of is maybe Youk, but he’s always been kinda big.
Clemens has always seemed as dumb as a sackful of hammers, imho. His lawyer may want to consider it as a defence.
Just rocket fuel for the Rocket Man. Not surprised.
Probably right.
This:
Quickly turned into this:
This just seems weird to me, makes me uncomfortable, maybe its just because I am completely ignorant on this subject.
I’ll gladly tarnish my career for half the money’s he’s made with these unretirements. What did he get last year, like 50 grand a pitch, give me those kind of prices and you can bring the tarnish by the boat load.
Not sure what you’re implying. Are you cool with ballplayers juicing up to destroy hallowed records?
By that I think you mean, "show me a power pitcher who did not become a finesse pitcher soon after turning 40." There aren't many.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!
(Those laughs come from a Red Sox fan, so you Yankmee fans can just wait a while to laugh at me if/when a Sox player gets named.)
This was done to clear-the-air and to try & head-off a Congressional investigation. It's why they picked a former senator to handle it.
I hope that this is the beginning of a process & not just a whitewash. If fear it is the latter.
No, I’m not in favor of players using anything to enhance their performance except hard work. The “say it ain’t so” line is what a boy asked Joe Jackson during the Black Sox scandal in 1919 (actually this scandal will rank with or near that one in overall BB history)
But why are you calling Mitchell’s report BS?
It could have the opposite effect by giving cover for Bonds to enter the HOF.
Among the names expected to appear in the Mitchell Report today are two of the most revered pitchers in Yankee history - Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte.
According to a source familiar with information provided to Mitchell, Brian McNamee, the longtime personal trainer for the players, gave the former Senate majority leader conducting a steroids investigation for Major League Baseball, information linking Clemens to the use of steroids and human growth hormone and Pettitte to human growth hormone.
According to the source, who asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the information, both players were provided the substances to help them recover from injury.
I think his pitches might have actually gotten faster. Remember he was considered washed up for a while there, and legitimately so.
