My wife heard it a few nights before we actually spotted it, she described it as a baby screeching.

Ive seen cat tracks in Indiana that were 5 inches across and 10 feet apart. (animal on the run) Aint nothing like that native to us.Cougar? They've been moving in all over....
Confirmed presence in North Dakota (a few got shot) in the last couple of years, along the Missouri and Little Missouri Breaks/badlands. It has been a couple of hundred years. I don't mind the elk and moose making a comeback, but I'd just as soon be at the top of their food chain, not some other critter.

I took the liberty of lightening and blowing up your critter and showed it to outdoorsy types and they think it is a fisher.
He sure looks healthy ... and mean. ;D

It’s been recommended that you keep all cats and small dogs under a watchful eye when outdoors if he is still prowling about. ;)

"Its been recommended that you keep all cats and small dogs under a watchful eye when outdoors if he is still prowling about. ;)" The kids were out back sledding and the wife keeping a watchful eye., she said it must be afraid of her because he scampered down the tree and ran up an adjacent pine on the neighbors property.
Since she is 6 foot I can't blame him for being scared. ;-D
