CHAPARRAL, N.M. -- Two southern New Mexico men are recovering after accidentally shooting themselves while trying to trace a loaded .357-caliber Magnum as a pattern for a tattoo.
The Otero County Sheriff's Department identified the men as Robert Glasser and Joey Acosta. Both are 22.
The sheriff's department said deputies responded to the shooting in Chaparral on Thursday evening, but Glasser and Acosta were already on their way to a hospital in nearby El Paso, Texas.
Authorities say Glasser was struck in the hand when the gun accidentally went off. Acosta was hit in the left arm. The injuries were not life-threatening.

A couple of questions:
1. Was it the same bullet that injured them both, or were they dumb enough to re-try?
2. Why did they use a LOADED gun?
3. Has anyone considered nominating these guys for a Darwin Awards Honorable Mention (honorable mentions are given to those who should be covered by the Darwin Awards but are still alive)?

Being a New Mexico resident, I do not find this surprising, in the least.

LOL The idiot should trace the flash burn on himself and have it added to the tattoo for a reminder of how stupid he is.

2. Why did they use a LOADED gun?
They were going for realism, man.
Who’d want a tatto of an empty gun?
To: andyk
One can’t help but wonder if it was going to be tattooed to look like he had a gun in his waistband...

That is so stupid, and on so many levels that it makes you wonder whether Darwin really was wrong.

It takes a special kind of stupid to...
1) Use a loaded gun.
2) Use a loaded/COCKED gun.
3) Get a tattoo! </ ducking for cover> :)

Knowing Chaparral the bullet probably passed through one hand, one arm and three double wides.
