EarthLink DSL very slow today?

Posted on 02/08/2008 8:26:43 AM PST by RayChuang88

To everyone here--if you're using EarthLink ADSL in Northern California, are you having serious problems doing email and web browsing being either very slow or not able to reach web pages? I talked with EarthLink Tech Support and they told me there is maintanence going on in the Bay Area, which might be seriously affecting Internet access. :-(

They had email problems last week that shut down email in northern Calif. for a time -- bad enough to put a message on their 800 number.

Today there are intermittent problems with email and the web access is noticeably slower than normal.

Perhaps the company is going through "turmoil" owing to business revenue decline that's forcing realignment?

I went through the whole "rigamole" (sic?) with EarthLink Tech Support checking all the network settings on my computer and it appears things were configured correctly. As of 1214 hours PST, things seem to be okay, though I'm going to get REALLY upset again if we have another web access problem.

William, I have really good news--I fixed my problem. The fix was simple: dump my EarthLink ADSL Domain Name Server and switched over to the OpenDNS server instead. Not only did it solve my slow web access problem but now download of web pages is actually faster in some cases!
