Wish me luck. (Total Vanity)

I'll keep it short, I was laid off last month.

Insurance, mortgage payments etc. will be strapping the finances very soon.

I went for an interview and recently a second.

I really need this job, it has good benefits including overtime.

Working in the manufacturing sector leaves my opportunities very limited here in the northeast.

The wife is starting to freak since we can't afford the Cobra payments and we won't have any insurance.

A wish for some luck (or prayers, is that okay?) would be appreciated.

Thanks to my friends here on FR in advance.

Whatever you do, man -- don't let the internet bill go unpaid!

< |:)~

But seriesly, there are a TON of online job-hunting sources out there.

You might also want to try professional networking sites line LinkedIn to drum up job leads.

As a last resort, Wal-Mart will always hire you.

Wal-Mart gets a lot of bad press, but one thing’s for sure— at least Wal-Mart provides jobs for many people who cannot find work elsewhere.

“Cobra is one big joke, isn’t it?......I can’t believe that some politician thought that the govt was doing people a big favor for charging what they do with Cobra”

Cobra is good as far as it goes. It just should last indefinitely, instead of only 18 months. What they charge is exactly what it costs your employer to provide group health insurance.

Best of Luck.
I too am laid off. I have applications all over the US. I got two replies today. One said I wasnt experienced enough and the other said I was over qualified. My family has not had insurance for three years. Our options expire in 60 days.

A prayer and best wishes. (I have a feeling I’ll be there soon, in the same situation). Keep at it. Strong.

Just to add this—— I wasn’t implying you were not qualified for work elsewhere. Sometimes highly qualified people cannot find a job opening for months or years. Wal-Mart, however, is always an option.

Some professional people might have to humble themselves to consider working at Wal-Mart, but at least they’ll have a paycheck coming in again. And would qualify for management positions most likely.

If cash runs tight, keep up the house payment. Everything else second. Try putting together a budget. Don’t panic if it does not work (balance) on the first go-around. Work the issue.

If you have not already done so, immediately shut off the cable TV (buy an antena and enjoy free channels). Cut off your high speed internet connection. Turn off your land line phone and get MagicJack. Dump the expensive cell phone plan and get Boost Mobile Unlimited.

No going out to dinner, not even just once in a while.

Buy only fruit, vegatables, meat and dairy. No snack foods. find one nibble food that is a good munch value for the buck.

Stop buying branded items. All ingredients are the same. You can not afford branded products.

You can quickly stop hundreds a month in payments that you don’t need to be making.

God Bless you!

Funny; similar here: I’m 5’8”, wife is 6’ in her bare feet.

Hang in there, my FRiend, and may God rain His blessings down on you and your family; may He show Himself mighty on your behalf. In Jesus’ holy name.......

Prayers for your search.
Have you looked into a Health Savings Account? With an HSA you can buy a high deductible insurance plan at fairly reasonable rates (for ‘catastrophic’ illnesses) and get a pre tax savings account to pay for minor health expenses. Check http://ehealthinsurance.com as one option for more info. They list policies with major companies such as Blue Cross, Aetna, United Healthcare,... (Be careful though as some companies can vary wildly in quality of customer service on a state by state basis-even big name companies.)
