My sidebar on FR (vanity)
April 20, 2008

Posted on 04/20/2008 7:54:02 AM PDT by processing please hold

When I came on FR this morning my configuration had changed. In order to see my sidebar I have to use the bottom scroll arrow to see it. I went to 'configure sidebar' but to no avail. I also went to my account to tinker with 'my preferences'. There are only three options on it now. (1) Thread Pagination (2) Browsing (3)Windows

None of these are any help in getting back by previous layout.

Any help sure would be appreciated.

I wish I could say the same. This may be my second or third thread posted since FR changed. Not worth the hassle navigating the new setup. On the bright side, JR saves a lot of bandwidth from me now because of it.

Since it’s happening to others and not just me, maybe they’ll fix it.

I’m using Firefox and I see the sidebar just fine. I didn’t have to configure anything either.

Looks like many of us are. I hope they fix it soon. If I had my druthers, I druther they scraped this setup altogether.

All growth is painful. FR is doing their best by us. I don’t mind the growing pains at all.

Same problem here on Safari — OK still on ancient version of IE. All was fine 3.5 hours ago. Just FReepmailed john robinson about it — also pinging him to this thread.

The FR page is too wide for my browser screen; it somehow doesn’t sense or respect the browser-window size. My sidebars are waaaaaaaay over to the right; I must scroll to get them.

Exactly! Thanks for explaining it better than I.

I don't know what Firefox I'm using but it's the latest version. I use windows xp - if that's what you mean.

My problem is exactly as post # 20 explains it.

I don't mind a few growing pains either, but I do mind when these changes are thrust upon us without prior notice, as many of these changes originally were. The moderators seem to be doing a better job lately of informing freepers, including posting a beta site, but when these changes started up a few weeks ago, it was painful.

And is it just me, or is the freepathon fund-raising going slower than in past quarters? Hitting someone in the wallet is always a way to get their attention.

Click on the "Activities" tab at the upper left of your screen. It worked for me. The sidebar reappeared.

And cut John some slack. The user community usually resists change, but in a few days, you'll be wondering why you ever liked the old format!

All growth is painful.

At my age when I talk about growth it usually means outward not upward. If I were over six feet tall I would be the perfect weight. lol

I’m using Konqeror under Kubuntu Linux Live CD and I see the sidebar just fine. I didn’t have to configure anything either.

I also like http://beta.freerepublic.com/perl/pings to track “My Comments” as MY responses show in a different colour than those replying to me. (Do wish it was other than sea-foam green, though. Saw too much of that in Uncle Sam’s Nautical Service !)

Just think how boring it would be to have nothing to gripe about in your life.
Be grateful! :^)

Teachers pet! Thanks it worked. I still don't like change. I miss the old FR, it was much easier to navigate.

but in a few days, you'll be wondering why you ever liked the old format!

I wouldn't bet on it. I haven't been comfortable with the new format since it started.

Ya know every morning just before my homepage starts up (FR is my homepage) there's always a little voice in the back of my head wondering if FR will be changed again. Yes, I'm aware that medication should take care of that little voice but we get along so famously. lol

Just fixed mine. While at the top of the page I slide the bottom scroll bar over and then clicked from Brevity to Header.

I thought it might have been the latest update to FF, but if it is hapening to version 2.0.0.12 too, than that’s not the answer. I have version 2.0.0.14, same annoying problem.

I didn’t donate (yet!) to the Freepathon, could that be it???
