RIP Prayer Request
From Mountainflower

Hal Jones.1

halfmast~ TAPS ~

It is with deep sadness that I relate the following to you.  On July 15 I received an email from Dan Small stating that our mutual friend, Hal Jones, has passed away after a 16-month or so battle with cancer. Hal Jones was with us in Washington, DC at Gathering of Eagles I.  It was an honor to get to know him and Dan, and to stand with him as a Marshal that day in March.  He has gone home to be with the Lord on July 14, 2008.  He is in a better place, standing at the ready in heaven, with no more pain or earthly sorrows.  He will be missed by his friends and loved ones.  Please pray for his family and for Dan.

Hal F. Jones, 58, Edgewater, a self-employed truck driver, died Monday, July 14, 2008, at the Hospice Care Center, Port Orange. Mr. Jones, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, was born in Berwyn, Ill., and moved to Edgewater in 1976 from Chicago, Ill. He was a radio dispatcher for the New Smyrna Beach Police Department for ten years and the Volusia County Sheriff's Department for five years. He also was a volunteer for the Turnbull Bay Fire Department and a ham radio operator. He enjoyed fishing, football and NASCAR. Survivors include his wife, Katherine "Kathy"; two sons, Phillip Jones, Edgewater, and Kevin (April) Jones, Maiden, N.C.; two daughters, Jessica and Jennifer Jones, both of Edgewater; and ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Cynthia Jones, in 1983. Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at the Dudley Edgewater Chapel with Chaplain Alan Gaylord, Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, officiating, and members of the American Legion Post #285, Edgewater, conducting military honors. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the service time Saturday at Dudley Edgewater Chapel. Private burial will be Monday, July 21, in the Veterans Field of Honor at Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater.

Please add your tributes here.  I will be emailing the link to Hal's family, so they can be a part of this TRIBUTE thread, as well.  I hope to obtain a few pictures to have posted also.  For those of you who knew Hal, feel free to share here and send your condolences through the GUESTBOOK link above.  Thank you to my FReeper friends who have assisted in putting this together.

AMEN on the Patriot Guard Riders. I am one. I thought of reaching the FL state cptn but saw they already had plans for others to be there, from other groups and left it at that. He would have been honored and so would have they. We did a funeral for someone I knew...it was an honor and hard to do, at the same time. They also asked us to be pall-bearers. The hardest day of my life.

Thanks for posting here.

Thank you for participating! I ride in a support vehicle. Bucky and I have been out three times. It is amazing! I would have called the PGR anyway, regardless of the other groups. Everyone would have been happy to be together.

Sorry about your friend. I know it must have been hard, but of course, a great honor. When I do, which I hope isn’t anytime soon, that the PGR will ride for me.

God bless!
