Bulletin from 630 WMAL:
630 WMAL has won the National Association of Broadcasters Marconi Radio Award as Major Market Station of the Year! This is the big one, across all formats, announced Thursday night at the NAB Convention in Austin. We were the only AM station nominated. The other nominees were KBWF-FM San Francisco; KIIS-FM Los Angeles; KOIT-FM San Francisco and WBLS-FM New York.
The Grandy and Andy Morning Show did not win in the Major Market Personality of the Year category, for which they were also nominated last year, but they certainly are an enormous factor in the station winning its award. They were up against the tough competition of Ryan Seacrest, who won in this category.
630 WMAL Ping
Yeah!
No less in due part to the local talent as well as the blockbuster lineup they have on national syndication.
and....thanks to you for the WMAL pings and always letting Chris Plante know what the Freepers are up to!!
Good for 630 and G&A.
CP talking about good fundamentals in the Economy has made me sick of late.
Proud moment except for that “losing to Ryan Seacrest” part.
I wouldn’t want that repeated often!
BTW, Silvie, caught you calling in to the G&A show this morning (6:40'ish). I liked Chris' reaction ("SILVIE???") as he & Bryan were guest hosts...
Plante always reacts like that when I call.... it’s an ongoing joke.... and also another ongoing joke is that I always have to say something in Spanish, like “Buenos Dias” or “Gracias” or something like that.... Chris was actually subbing with Rick Fowler because Bryan was also with Grandy & Andy in Texas today....
So why did they dump Chris Cuer? (sp?)
Oh that was Rick! I should have recognized him - I listen to his Saturday morning broadcasts. Sorry Rick!
At any rate, it was nice to be able to listen to Chris, since I’m normally not able to catch his current time slot...
Chris Core was let go in February.
You can access his webpage at www.chriscoretalks.com.
Glad to hear it - not everyone on radio agrees with me, that doesn’t mean that they aren’t interesting.
That’s great news!
Apparently he cost too much and they wanted to clear the way for Chris Plante, who’s been doing a heckuva job!
I hope they use their prize to hire a new chipmunk to boost their signal.
