I keep hearing about how people are starved for loans, and that we'll have a credit freeze if the bailout passes. However, I bought a new car yesterday evening, and I was able to get quick financing from Honda. I therefore submit unto you all this question: are you or anybody you know having trouble getting a loan?

I'm simply interested in seeing if the media and government are creating the "loan difficulty" meme from whole cloth.

I got a new credit card yesterday. No problem. Migrating the old balance onto the new one and closing the old one.

Loan problems are predicated upon future bank failures which we have started to see with the WAMU collapse.
Also companies like Honda and GM and whatnot are big enough to have their own independent financing arms.

I am a real estate agent and I can tell you that several of my clients have not been able to get financing, and they are earn a moderate income.

My house has been on the market since January. Realtor says its hard for buyers to get financing. For cryin’ out loud. I’m only asking 142k, down from 165k.

No trouble at all — we pay cash or we don’t get _____ (fill in the blank).

Would Al Gore or James Hansen ever have trouble getting a loan? Of course not. What a silly question. But how about you?

I have no need of a loan but I’m still getting a dozen or more spam emails daily, offering me low interest credit cards reguardless of my credit rating.

I got THREE pre-approved offers for THREE different gas cards in the mail on a single day. Coincidence? I think not.

WE were turned down by our bank for a home equity loan of 50K on a 200K house with no loan on it. Went across the street to a bank we had never had an account with and got the loan without issue. We do have excellent credit.

I’m trying to get a loan for 250k, no money down at 2% interest.
No go so far.

I am a real estate agent and I can tell you that several of my clients have not been able to get financing, and they are earn a moderate income. Are these clients creditworthy, under "old school" credit standards? Down payment, debt to income, payment history, employment history, assets?

I'm simply interested in seeing if the media and government are creating the "loan difficulty" meme from whole cloth. There will always be loans in a free market, for the right price.
I vote with the "whole cloth" theory.
They need to let the market work.
