“Baraska” = Barska. And no, they are not “good” scopes. Bushmaster is a great brand, but Barska is like putting a Taco Bell chalupa a side to your filet. Try an Eotech, Aimpoint, Trijicon, or Leupold.

You should ditch it and go with a Trijicon ACOG... I used it in the military and use it now for my AR15 Carbine. Here is an excerpt from the website http://www.trijicon.com:

The ACOGs are internally-adjustable, compact telescopic sights with tritium illuminated reticle patterns for use in low light or at night. Bindon Aiming Concept (BAC)* models feature bright daytime reticles using fiber optics which collect ambient light. The ACOGs combine traditional, precise distance marksmanship with close-in aiming speed. Although the ACOGs have many features which are very advantageous for military use, they were developed by Trijicon without government funding.
Designed for use with the M16 family, every feature of its mechanical and optical design was chosen for a single purpose: to provide increased hit potential in all lighting conditions — without failure-prone batteries.

"I so love my wife, she's awesome, and for my birthday, she bought me a Bushmaster ORC with a scope."

You are a lucky man to have such a thoughtfull wife. Tell her you love her, and thank her for the gift.

I have owned several Barska binoculars and telescopes. They are on the upper end of Chinese optics. That scope would probably do OK on your rifle, but I wouldn't take a chance.

Others have recommended better ones and I will not argue with their choices.

I had an email exchange with their president and he stated that he picked the best manufacturer in the city where most Chinese optics are made. I think he said Kunming but my memory is sometimes off.

What a great present! I am so jealous!

Take it to the range. Shoot the Bushmaster with the scope. It will work OK for range/plinking/etc.

For highpower competition get national match sights (you can't use a scope for NM competition).

Later, after you have figured things out, either keep the Barska scope, or maybe get a new one. Don't be put off by claims of “low quality”, do your own evaluation and see what you really need. If you like it, keep it.

Hey, be thankful that you have a wife that remembers your birthday. Mine rarely did. Maybe that should have clued me in because now she’s an Ex.

I miss my Ex. Do you think I should use a scope?

(That’s an old joke, ladies.) ;^D

BTW, anyone have experience with a Glock G-36? I’ve been thinking about getting one for a CCW. How well do they handle and how accurate are they. (Yeah, I know, depends on the shooter, LOL.) Considering the recoil from a short barrel, how hard is it to stay on target with it? Any comments are appreciated. Thanks.

The scope is not a high-end scope... But don't ditch it... Just take it off and hold on to it as a "special luxury" that you want to save in the box "for special occasions and long distance shots". Your wife went to a lot of trouble to get you something that she wants you to enjoy. Were I in your shoes, I wouldn't say anything negative about the scope in front of her that would hurt her feelings - keep it positive with the phrases I used above.

Make sure you tell her how much you love her and how much you love the gift. You can be blunt and tell her it isn't a "great" scope, or you can be happy with it for what it is, and keep her happy too. Being blunt would serve no real purpose here. Besides, you might want to put it on a low-recoil .22 (would probably be okay on something like that with low recoil) and show off in front of her when you shoot Ritz crackers at 25 yards and make them into crumbs! Let her see you enjoy the scope at some point...

You have a good carbine, just put a good CQB optical sight on it such as a Trijicon Reflex II, an Aimpoint M4, or an EOtech and let her know it is for "close in work".

Regards,
Raven6
