I was travelling home (in Connecticut) from relatives in Upper New York State this past Sunday by myself. I was driving on a state road where the posted speed limit is 55 mph. I was maintaining a speed of 65-70 mph.
I was listening to the Vikings-Giants game on the radio (I'm a Vikings fan). In a period of 15 seconds, the Vikings kicked the winning field goal, I got very excited, I hit the accelerator in my excitement, went over the top of a hill and was clocked at 86 mph.
Anyone familiar or have some experience with speeding violations in upper New York? Advice is appreciated.
I am pretty sure a Vikingasm isn’t a mitigating factor...

You’re screwed! Good luck to your Vikings and just pay the ticket.
Pretty much the same anywhere. Pay the ticket. You may have to appear in court on that one due to your speed.
Hopefully you didn’t tell the officer that you were a Vikings fan....
you admitted you were speeding so pay the fine
You were speeding.
You were breaking the law.
“getting excited about a football game on the radio” is not a valid defense to the citation you received..
Pay it.
Or pay a lawyer and then end up paying for the citation.
This has been my free legal advice of the day.
Plead guilty... mail it in.
Say nothing about the football, or the judge will double your fine (at least)
My advice? Don’t seek advice on the internet.
Ask for court supervision, take a driving class—this will keep it off your insurance.
Wait three weeks, call the DA upon who’s desk the violation sits. Plead for a reduction. Upon learning that your suit failed, shoot yourself...not because you lost, but because you are a Viking fan.
You first need to establish why you are a Vikings fan living in Connecticut. If your explanation sounds viable....then we will proceed.
"Suicide by cop" is always an option, tho' he probably should've tried to grab his gun (or the cop's) during the traffic stop.
“Advice is appreciated”
You are screwed. Don’t buy any Long Playing Records.
If I were an officer, I’d write you up as follows:
-Speeding
-Reckless Driving
-Driving while being a Vikings Fan
-Driving while listening to a Vikings game
-Admitting to being a Vikings fan
-Inappropriate display of emotion while driving
-Inappropriate use of FreeRepublic Postings
I’d say there are many felony counts here which may result in Zotting. However, I can’t talk because I’m a Bronco fan and have a felony FreeRepublic record as a rehabilitated tin foil hat vanity poster. :-)
As to the speeding citation, I advise that you pay the fine.
As to being a Vikings fan, I can’t help you there.
Your life is over, there’s nothing you can do, head for Canada while you can!
Of course it’s worthless advice, but remember what you paid for it.
Just explain it was a “football injury.”
Oh wait, you were in NY rooting for the Vikings, never mind...
