Very interesting, I was thinking they might want to place the largest elements of an interferometric cluster on the moon since it could be serviced by astronauts at a future base.
There was a sci-fi book I read a few years ago about a solar system-wide interferometer that could image planets in neighboring galxies.
They discovered things like Dyson spheres around some stars in the story.
