Smith, Woodson head six-man Hall of Fame class

NEW YORK (TICKER) —Defensive end Bruce Smith and defensive back Rod Woodson headed a six-man class that was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday.

Smith, the NFL’s all-time sacks leader, and Woodson, who spent much of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, were both first-year finalists.

Joining the duo were the late Derrick Thomas of the Kanasas City Chiefs, guard Randall McDaniel, Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson Jr. and former Dallas Cowboys speedster Bob Hayes.

Bob Hayes Hayes finally gets in, and I was surprised that Chris Carter and Shannon Sharpe didn't make the cut. This was Carter's second attempt.

Derrick Thomas will be inducted posthumously.

Ah yes, Bullet Bob, The World's Fastest Man. A little flare pass in the backfield and he was gone, straight ahead for ninety yards.

Shannon Sharpe wins 3 SB’s and finished his career, I believe, with the most catches by a tight end. What more does anybody have to do to get into the Hall of Fame—walk on water.

Just to show you that I have no axe to grind-Sharpe was never my favorite player-he’s got too big a mouth—but he deserves induction.

I was really surprised that a guy with is resume didn’t make the cut. Then again, look at how long it took for John Mackey to make it. Ridiculous.
