Actor Ron Silver, who won a Tony Award as a take-no-prisoners Hollywood producer in David Mamet's "Speed-the-Plow" and did a political about-face from loyal Democrat to Republican activist after the Sept. 11 attacks, died Sunday at the age of 62.

"Ron Silver died peacefully in his sleep with his family around him early Sunday morning" in New York City, said Robin Bronk, executive director of the Creative Coalition, which Silver helped found. "He had been fighting esophageal cancer for two years."

I loathed the man pre 9/11. He ran the actors union and often required actors to be very lib to get acting work. 9/11 changed him for the better. He supported Republicans and finally understood the threat. This is very sad. RIP. If you have regular heartburn, acid reflux or anything like that - seek help. Esophageal cancer is very bad and can be caused by stomach acid.

Ron will be missed. He was the rarest of all creatures, a conservative actor. And a very brave man too. These two are usually mutually exclusive in Hollywood. RIP Ron.

Sorry to hear this. I admired how he stood up for his convictions against the relentless din of moronic liberal voices.

Rest in peace Ron...
