Wow..poor guy! He was definitely lucky....
Yes, i’ve heard that you should always replace a helmet after a significant impact (struck by heavy object,bird strike,accident,etc.).

Is that the long stretch of rough road that i’ve read about in bike magazines? From what I understand,there’s nothing but this road for miles and miles.
