Learned in grade school that Phobos and Deimos are Greek for “fear” and “panic”. This was due to the (mistaken) notion that they circle Mars in opposite directions.

Reminds me of a joke early in the space race: while the U.S. and Soviets were aiming for the moon, France was concentrating on getting to Mars first. Reason?

“Because, if there is intelligent life on Mars, it will speak FRENCH, but of course!”

Man is not going to visit Mars for at least two centuries. Folks don’t appreciate the difficulties of doing that. It makes the moon look like a walk in the park.
