Hundreds of women in Quebec with breast cancer may have been prescribed the wrong treatment because of faulty pathology tests, a CBC News investigation has found.

In Newfoundland and Labrador, the issue surfaced recently, as Eastern Health's pathology lab turned over inaccurate hormone receptor tests to almost 400 patients over an eight-year period. More than 100 women died

Coming soon to a hospital near you in the U.S.A. Be afraid, be very afraid. Never mind assisted suicide, try state suicide.

And when it’s free the number of funerals will more than triple! Last week they had a story about a cabinet minister in the Newfoundland government receiving chemo that he didn’t need, he had been misdiagnosed!

Canadian Government:

"We have some good news and bad news for you. We now have a test for Her-2 that is 100% accurate. The bad news is that even if it is positive, we are not going to pay for Herceptin chemotherapy."

Comng soon? In the US that's a subject you really don't want to draw attention to.

Research published in 2005 that studied 209 reading radiologists who had interpreted more than one million mammography studies over a five-year period. In this large scale study, researchers found that some physicians missed 71 percent of the actual cancers (Source: Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Vol. 97, No 5, March 2005).

Additionally, a 2003 paper published by the American Medical Association found that at least four percent of all U.S. patients who die in a hospital might have survived had their diagnosis been correct. In fact, it is estimated that diagnosis errors lead to death in as many as one in 20 patient deaths.

Misdiagnosis and medical malpractice: The top five diseases in terms of dollar payouts include breast , lung , colorectal , heart attack and appendicitis.

I recently retired after 43 years at the same hospital. The quality of patient care was terrible. People would have been better suited asking “ Do you want that supersized” than working in the hospital setting. Most of the nurses on the overnight shift were imported from other countries. Positions were being filled with less educated and less qualified people. Once it was a job that demanded respect and consideration for the patient. That no longer applies. I grew tired of people worrying more about their coffee breaks than the welfare of the patient.

Thanks for that info, having recently been diagnosed with invasive breast cancer I was somewhat stunned because no women on either side of my family has ever had the disease. When I went for my consults I was even more surprised that what was initially described as a fairly small lump was actually extremely large and buried deep right down to the chest wall AND there was also another one in the lymph nodes that had been missed completely. With a pre-existing condition and a husband on Social insecurity we could not afford medical insurance for me so I was stunned when my application for medicaid was denied but the ultimate shock came Tuesday when I discovered my cancer was the result of what is called the cross over effect. My grandfather, uncle and father all had prostate cancer and it can be passed from father to daughter! I am still stunned by this information, almost as much as I am by the fact that at the age of 52 I will become yet another CDC statistic and one of the fourth generation but the first female with cancer. Oh well, maybe the Mayo clinic can add my name to the study they began with the male members of my family, even if it started with prostate cancer. Perhaps my only hope is that I don’t have ovarian cancer as well, since I can’t get treatment.

Well since you are so delighted with all that you should be thrilled to learn that there are plenty of misdiagnoses done right here in the U.S.A. and maybe one near you!
