Roman Catholic, Anti-Communist Republican classic movie director Leo McCarey's "Once Upon A Honeymoon"(1942) with Republican movie superstars Ginger Rogers & Cary Grant. is airing on TCM on Monday morning. From its title, stars & director one might think it's a light romantic comedy like Grant's "The Awful Truth" and Miss Rogers' "It Had to Be You." And while it's partly in that genre, it's also a WII spy adveture. It's loads of fun to watch if you're a fan of Ginger, Cary, Walter Slezak(as Ginger's villainous Nazi husband), McCarey or 1940s WWII propaganda films. It also provides evidence that there was a time when Hollywood was patriotic and more than happy to be on America's side in times of conflict. When are those anti-Islamic terrorist pictures going to be filmed in today's PC Hollywood, I wonder?
Here's a few clips from it. The funny scene where Cary meets Ginger-

And a later scene between the 2 of them ordering brandy & vodka-

Now that's chemistry.
It's also available for purchase from WB directly.

Fun to watch, particularly when they have a leisurely discussion about alerting someone that Ginger’s Nazi fiancé is overboard
Bookmarked for later. Thanks!
I like the scene where Cary & Ginger 1st meet & then she later confronts him about his ruse is quite funny.
I think the montage with the huge clock with the swastika hand saying “Timetable of A. Hitler” the map of Europe in the background is very fascinating to watch from a historical perspective. It actually helped me for a history test when I was in school to remember the correct order of nations Nazi Germany invaded and occupied. And the scene where Ginger & Cary get mistaken for Jews and are almost sent to a concentration camp provides historical evidence that the Allied nations new about the Holocaust as early as 1942.
Definitely a fascinating and entertaining film about the war that deserves to be remembered alongside “To Be Or Not To Be” and “The Great Dictator”. It also in many ways foreshadows Grant’s later film “Notorious”.
