FOXBOROUGH -- Rodney Harrison is going from the NFL to NBC.

According to a source with knowledge of Harrison's plans, the 36-year-old will announce tomorrow that he is retiring after 15 seasons -- the last six with the Patriots -- to pursue a broadcast career as part of NBC Sports' NFL coverage.

Harrison was part of NBC's coverage of Super Bowl XLIII in February and also did work for the NFL Network during the playoffs. His contract with the Patriots expired after the 2008 season.

Harrison joined the Patriots in 2003 and won a pair of Super Bowl rings. A two-time Pro Bowler, he is the only player in NFL history with more than 30 sacks (30.5) and 30 interceptions (34).

I think that we might soon see if Bill Bellichick’s NFL Head Coaching resume is simply a fluke.

Vrabel gone, Harrison gone, ....

Looking forward to the New England 2009 Season.

Huh? He and his staff took a core group of talented players and plugged a lot of holes with waiver wire pick ups and won a SB in 2002. They came oh so close to making it back to the SB in 2006 with no running game and a WR corps featuring Reche Caldwell and Jabbar Gaffney. Their defense was throwing out guys signed off the street their final game against the Colts who went on to win against a Bears’ team with a much better D than the Pats had to offer.

I hope that you realize that I am Patsy fan.

I am a former season ticket holder but I gave them up for financial reasons the year before Parcells & Bledsoe came along.

I fully expect that we are going to see at least a few more great seasons before Bill walks away a winner.

I think that New England has been for the last decade or so the most professional of all sports teams.

A two-time Pro Bowler, he is the only player in NFL history with more than 30 sacks (30.5) and 30 interceptions (34)

They're really reaching for the stats: "And he holds the record for the longest return of a kick to open the second half of a game in a domed stadium west of the Mississippi."

Besides, they've only kept stats on sacks for about 25 years. I think Deacon Jones coined the term for tackling a quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. Prior to that, it was just considered a tackle for loss.

So Rodney Harrison is retiring. And here’s what that means......

Another 10+ win season, Tom Brady’s successful return leading back to the playoffs....

Meanwhile in Cleveland, the laughingstock of the NFL..........more of the same.

Oh, I thought it was someone important like Marvin, or William Henry.

Safeties who play run support generally don’t get many picks.

A better stat was how many personal fouls and fines he collected over the years.

That’s true. Harrison was a good safety. I just get tired of seeing them continue to make up statistics so two out of every five players are the “most” something. Emmitt Smith as the all time rushing leader, Bradshaw and Montana as the only QBs with four Super Bowl rings, Bob Hayes being the only athlete with a Super Bowl ring and an Olympic Gold Medal, those stats are special.

A silly assertion, to my mind, but you can wait as long as you want for that.
Here's one for you... Peyton Manning is done as an elite QB. All his binkies are now gone, coaches, Marin Harrison, Tom Moore, Howard Mudd, GONE. It's all him, and he can't hang, he will be shown to be the ULTIMATE "system QB."

As a fan of Rodney Harrison, it’s great to see he will be around football awhile longer. Kinda sad though, how Troy Brown has just seemed to have faded away.

I don't think they're laughing in Detroit.

I really loved when TNT showed a promo before the Cavs lost the other day with all the big Cleveland post-season losses over the years, like the Willie Mays catch, the Michael Jordan shot, the Earnest Byner fumble, etc. They just love to rub it in.

Whew!

This Steelers fan thought for a second that this thread was about James Harrison. If I were Rooney, I'd offer James 10/1 compensation for every fine he receives for a hard hit!
