Vanity: Please support "The Goode Family!" (FReep the ratings)

Posted on 07/10/2009 4:12:34 PM PDT by Julia H.

For those of you who aren't yet familiar with "The Goode Family," it is an animated sitcom by Mike Judge that satirizes our obsessively politically correct, religiously "green" culture. It airs at 8:30/7:30c Friday nights on ABC. This show is worth momentarily lifting your boycott on ABC, because it is one of few that actually makes fun of liberalism instead of preaching it.

Show the entertainment industry what we want: a voice, not more attempts to demonize us in the eyes of viewers who can't think for themselves. Yes, humorless liberals ARE complaining about this show. After all these years of being coddled by TV and movies, liberals don't know how to deal with being the butt of a joke.

The very first episode (I saw) they made fun of Christians who believe in Abstiance education, portraying us as “weirdos”, and crazyies which sponsor events where Daddies “marry” their Daughters.

I know they make fun of liberals, but they also don’t like social conservatives, apparently.

Yea, but the problem is...it just isn’t funny.

Maybe I’m just too low-brow, but I greatly prefer South Park. Foul and borderline obscene, but it is a riot and takes shots at everyone.

It’s fairly entertaining. The main underlying theme I’ve noticed is making fun of liberal guilt.

I wanted to like it. Loved King of the Hill but this just doesn’t have the magic. It’s toast.

I believe it is because the characters are too likable. I tuned in wanting to laugh at them but I didn’t.

The concepts are funny though. Adopting an African orphan and getting sent a white kid from South Africa - excellent.

I think Mike Judge made the all too common mistake of equating the recognition of comic potential for comedy itself. Too bad.

How about Whale Wars on Animal Planet? There’s one I didn’t expect to like and now I’m hooked. There’s a show that should make you mad but ends up making you laugh.

Will be watching. Only missed a couple of episodes (when they switched from Wed. to Fri.).

I’ll click and support it...but to be honest...I just don’t think its a very good show.

I like the grandfather and the neighbor...but other than that...it just looks like a wasted opportunity so far.

Tried two episodes but didn’t like it - the green machine is the new communism and it’s past being laughable or taken seriously - other tactics are needed.

Most don’t like serious documentaries showing the lack of true science for the energy rationing at our doorstep. The George Carlin clip may be a better approach - satire, humor, boldness, history and common sense. . .

Great Earth Day infotainment

George Carlin: Saving the Planet

“I’m tired of f*cking earth day”
“I’m tired of these self-righteous environmentalists”

My comment on this:
Great perspective on the asshole greenie ideology - compares 4.5 billion year earth to us doing stuff for 200 years - think “The Resilient Earth” by Julian Simon - we think some plastic bags and aluminum cans are going to make a difference - what ego-maniacal thinking - unfortunately demeans mankind (God’s crown of creation) a bit at end which subtly feeds into the anti-human theology of the greens, i.e., “Hate carbon - hate humans”
