Beckham gets rude welcome in return to Los Angeles

David Beckham received a rude welcome from disgruntled Galaxy fans in his return to Los Angeles, confronting one who leapt out of the stands at halftime of Galaxy's friendly against AC Milan.

The English star, who missed the first half of the Major League Soccer season while on loan to AC Milan, was booed roundly during introductions, and again on his first several touches of the ball.

Some of those who were angered by Beckham's stated desire to remain in Italy, and his belated return to his US club, made their feelings felt with banners and gestures such as holding up Beckham's jersey and beating it.

As Beckham left the field at halftime, he approached a section of stands and appeared to shout something.

A fan jumped down from the section and was subdued by security and escorted off the pitch.

Beckham played for the Galaxy in a 3-1 MLS victory at the New York Red Bulls on Thursday, but the friendly against AC Milan was his first match in front of Galaxy home fans since his return.

Both of them?

Oh, that's right, there's probably several million illegals there that care about soccer.

What a consummate insult to those of us who follow and love the game and have names and histories that are totally American.(Mine extends to great grandparents and other relatives who fought for the Union, from PA.) Why did you bother to come to the thread? Was it to insult my citizenship?

I remember when World Cup was on, a radio show host I listen to had this fake ranchero music in the background. Every five minutes the “Program director” would cut into the show and tell the host that he’d better get some energy into it because “the Mexicans love soccer.” Eventually he had the host helling “arriba!” into the microphone. I almost busted a gut laughing.

In my township we went from 6 teams of kids 6-8 years old to now only having enough for 2 and they have to travel to other towns for teams to play. Demographic change you say , not likely since we grew in population. My Son and his friends think soccer in their words..”Is for girls and wimps”. Can’t say I disagree, was always a sport on an amateur level which was a haven for spastic sailboat shirt kids with names likes Brenden and Chase.

Gosh, I wonder what kind of music that guy would play to accompany a NFL or NBA broadcast?

It is a little rougher the way they play in in Europe and the way it used to be played in America by European-Americans.

MLS is paying Beckham $6.5 million this year, many times more than than every other MLS player. Even Landon Donavon has criticized Beckham’s commitment to his team. There are a lot of hard feeling right now that all that money being spent on Beckham is not worth it. And clearly there is some merit to that, but Beckham was hired to draw people to the game, not necessarily for his (current) playing abilities.

If you ever ever once thought LA wasn’t a gay town... the fact they have a pro soccer team that actually draws a crowd should pretty much seal the deal for ya.

I don’t think soccer’s a bad game per se. I will say, however, of all the sports I do play as an adult, and I play a lot of different sports, it is the one sport where the players WHINE the most about contact of any sort and definately has the highest proportion of openly homosexual players.

My kids will not be playing soccer - where we live it’s a 5-6 day a week commitment, and some games are played on Sunday Mornings during church time.

In my township we went from 6 teams of kids 6-8 years old to now only having enough for 2 and they have to travel to other towns for teams to play.

We actually have seen a demographic change.

In South Philadelphia, I don't think I've ever seen Americans playing Soccer (it may happen, I just haven't ever seen it).

However, beginning in 2005 when we first started getting our mexicans, on Sundays, the parks would be filled with soccer games. Often, two games at the same time, 300 illegals jammed into the park watching and playing. The drunkenness, public urination, and children behaving like savages made the parks a place unfit for civilized children.

To make matters worse, regularly scheduled children's softball and football league games were unable to play since their field was taken over.

The one upside of the economy crashing, is it seems that a lot of our illegals have picked up and gone home. Now, those soccer fields are filled with local kids playing T ball.

I don’t think Beckham is ghey but he would better served practicing soccer more and modeling underwear less.

To say that soccer is an “illegal alien” game is ridiculous. There are 18 million Americans who play soccer, 78% are under the age of eighteen. In the 1990s, soccer was recognized as the fastest-growing college and high school sport in the United States. The experts say soccer has become popular with children because almost anyone can play not because more “illegal aliens” are coming into our country.
