GRANTS PASS A kill order was issued Tuesday for the first wolves caught killing livestock in Oregon since they began moving to the state.
Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife spokeswoman Michelle Dennehy said extensive efforts were made to persuade the wolves to leave livestock alone in the Keating Valley of Baker County, but havent worked. The two wolves have killed 29 animals in five incidents, including last week, when three sheep and a pet goat were killed.
Federal hunters have been given a permit to kill the pair, and the rancher has permission to shoot them to protect his stock, Dennehy added.
Removal of these kinds of problem wolves is part of overall conservation, Dennehy said. We cant allow chronic livestock losses to continue, unfortunately. We have to take this step.

Its sad it is coming to this, said Sean Stevens, spokesman for Oregon Wild, a conservation group that supports restoration of wolves in Oregon. It makes you realize its pretty overblown when people are talking about needing more rights to kill wolves.
We have something like 10 and were going to kill off two them in response to depredation. It seems the system at least in part is working and we dont need more people with guns aimed at wolves.

Better late then never.
I heard this on the Radio this PM. Its about time, these wolves will get used to the easy kills and then breed.... then we will have a BIG problem. Its better to do this now.
Maybe they only understand Inuit. :-)
Absolutely, and they seldom mention taxpayer funds spent to reimburse for depredation.
Why should a rancher need permission to shoot a predator attacking his livestock?
Liberals are why.
Because they’re on the fed or state endangered species list. That’s one reason why Idaho, Montana and Wyoming have been screaming to get them delisted.
I found a track tonight here in the Michigan woods that I’m really hoping is a very large dog. It would be one of the biggest dogs I’ve seen if it is.
I took a couple of photos but haven’t loaded them into the computer yet.
Just like the “No Gun Zone” and “Nuclear Free Zone” and “Drug Free Zone” signs libs put up, just put up a “No Wolves Allowed” sign ... see, problem solved.
Though I’ve hunted my whole life I’ve never seen a wolf track because of where I’ve hunted but the wolves are now moving in to both OR & WA. I understand the adult tracks are quite large.
Great. It took 29 dead livestock to convince ODFW to consent to killing the wolves. It should only take one.
Please notify me via FReepmail if you would like to be added to or taken off the Oregon Ping List.
LOL!
You got that right, Salvation. I lived in So OR for part of that fiasco.
I can hear the ecofreaks now; It’s species-based Genocide, I tell ya. First, they came after the adorable sea lion and now the majestic wolf. Next, it could be your pet rat that lives in the sewer drain.
I’m surprised at how calm the eco nut rant in this article is but it just happened, by tomorrow we’ll start hearing the serious rants.
Will they be allowed to hunt them from helicopter?
The ecos should live with the wolves like ole timmy did with the bears.
