ELF group warns of further vandalism

>>MALTBY — A spokesman for the Earth Liberation Front Press Office said he believes graffiti sprayed on a building in south Snohomish County is a warning of further vandalism.

>>Spokesman Tomas Peterson sent the Associated Press an e-mail late Friday about graffiti found earlier this week sprayed on buildings in an industrial park in Maltby that appears intended for the Master Builder’s Association and Everett’s KRKO-AM 1380 AM radio station.

>>Peterson said he believes the graffiti to be “a strong warning directed specifically to the Skotdal family and the Master Builder’s Association.” Peterson adds that “if these entities continue to threaten the health and welfare of the planet, it is very likely we will see future actions by the ELF.” Andy Skotdal is the owner of KRKO.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KRKO

KRKO is one of the oldest licensed stations in America. They air sports talk

>>On September 4, 2009, two of the station’s four radio towers were toppled by vandals. A sign left at the scene said the eco-terrorist group Earth Liberation Front was responsible. The station has transferred its radio transmission to a backup site and remains on the air at reduced power.

Note that Wikipedia does use the term eco-terrorist

>>Eco-terrorism is a form of terrorism or sabotage committed in support of ecological, environmental, or animal rights causes against persons (or their property) who are viewed as being harmful to the environment.

>>Eco-terrorism is defined by the FBI as “the use or threatened use of violence of a criminal nature against innocent victims or property by an environmentally-oriented, subnational group for environmental-political reasons, or aimed at an audience beyond the target, often of a symbolic nature.” The FBI has credited to eco-terrorism 200 million dollars in property damage from 2003 and 2008, and a majority of states within the USA have introduced laws aimed at eco-terrorism.
