A caretaker has been charged with the murder of a priest whose body was found in the rectory of his US church.
Jose Feliciano, 64, stabbed and slashed Rev Ed Hinds 32 times with a kitchen knife after the pair had an argument, according to prosecutors.
The 61-year-old pastor had been in his clerical robes when he was killed and Feliciano was one of two people who said they found the body, it is claimed.
The body was discovered at about 8am on Friday after Rev Hinds failed to attend Mass at St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Chatham, New Jersey.
Feliciano, who had worked at the church for 17 years, was arrested the following day and also faces weapons charges.
Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi said investigators found the priest's mobile phone, bloody clothing and a bloody towel at Feliciano's home in Easton, Pennsylvania.

Father lay dying and dead overnight until he was discovered. Subsequently, the investigation led to Feliciano and he was arrested.
Don't tell me this guy has never murdered before or been violent. I don't understand the naivete of people who say he was a "nice, quiet guy," etc. and I don't understand the priest who lectured the parish to pray for him.
What about the man of God who suffered a horrible and terrifying death? What about him?
“What about the man of God who suffered a horrible and terrifying death? What about him? “
Yes, what about him?
Prayer ping.
Poor man, he is the one who has my prayers....
Prayers up!
This is terrible. People are fawning over the killer and ignoring the victim.
And what’s wrong with the 911 operators in NJ? Didn’t it occur to them that a killer would also lie to them? Cancel the victim’s dying call? Heads should roll among those dispatchers.
The 911 is supposedly being investigated. How can an operator cancel a 911 call without checking with a supervisor? Without sending out law enforcement to be sure there is no need? Unbelievable.
What about the man of God who suffered a horrible and terrifying death? What about him?
The priest asking for prayers for the killer is appropriate. He NEEDS prayers, because his soul is twisted. As for the priest who was murdered, yes, we can pray for the Repose of his soul, but he's beyond our help, and we hope he's already in the loving arms of God. His friends and parishoners can cry out for justice for his death, and pray for his attacker at the same time. That sounds counter-intuitive, but it's what Christians believe.
I know you can’t call and cancel around here even if it was a mistake.
I’m a lifelong Christian and a Catholic. As a human being, I think it’s too soon to immediately call for prayers for the perp as the first homily that this parish hears after their pastor has been viciously murdered.
In the same way, I did not want to hear “turn the other cheek” when I went to church on the Day of Prayer, the Friday after 9/11/2001.
I think it is okay to salt faith with common sense.
“...I don’t understand the priest who lectured the parish to pray for him.”
Read the Gospels sometimes. Great reading.
“In the same way, I did not want to hear turn the other cheek when I went to church on the Day of Prayer, the Friday after 9/11/2001.”
Tough for the disciples of Jesus who were living under Roman occupation too. Seems as though those soldiers didnt’ have any real rules other than to “keep the peace.”
I read the Gospel every day. However, do you think the U.S. should have “turned the other cheek” as a response to 9/11? I understand the Gospel to apply to one’s personal conduct. Also, try reading up on how truly diabolical this crime was, the killing of the priest.
Prayers sent Dita!
