The National Republican Congressional Committee will now be throwing its support to Hoffman, after endorsing Scozzafava and deriding the Conservative Party candidate in statements throughout much of the race.

Hey, GOP “establishment”, are you listening? We (conservatives) are not going to settle or compromise anymore!
Politico will paint this however they want, but I think it’s a plus for conservatism and a good message for the GOP establishment.
What are the odds Daggett would fall on his sword in NJ?
Not as likely, I suppose he would have to give Corzine back whatever he is paying him to siphon off Christie’s votes.
Michael Steele: “We want to be supporting the one that wins.”
What a jackass. If the GOP heirarchy had thrown their weight behind the person whose record, statements, and ideals best represent what the party CLAIMS to stand for, they wouldn’t have supported the candidate that had to withdraw.
The GOP looks clueless and adrift, almost hopelessly. Scozzafava comes off like a team player with this really classy move.
Newt was tweeting this morning, saying we need to back Hoffman now. Newt, I thought Hoffman didn’t know the issues and didn’t live in the district? Wipe the egg off your face, Newt. What a tool.
I guess Newt can campaign for Owens now. I wonder if this will help Owens more than Hoffman?
I have lost a great deal of respect for both Steele and Newt over the past few days. I thought they were both conservatives and were out to actually help the party regain control. Now it looks like they are both shills for the establishment just like all the democrats are and have always been.
Conservatism needs to remain in the tent of the Republican Party, but the tent should not have much space reserved for RINOs - and campaign donation ($upport) needs to be diminished to those not toeing the line for minimal government, minimal taxes, constitutional fundamentalism, and protection of personal liberties. NO THRID PARTY!
I have also lost any remnant of respect that might have been left for a lot of “Republicans” who didn’t come for Hoffman until it looked over for Scuzzy.
It might, but we also know the RINO/GOP leadership is a very pragmatic group. They are still in the leadership positions and will be for the foreseeable future - at least until the 2010 elections. Dede’s departure is a good start but will not be the end of this struggle. This is like cleaning up one of the cabinets in the garage when much of the house is still a mess.
Newt should go soak his head.
Technically, this means that in NY-23 the Republican Party has now slipped from being the third party in this race to being no party to this race.
The GOP has finally reached the vanishing point.
These people MUST be expunged from the party...for eternity.
Newt. Boehner. McCain. Mitchell. All NRCC delegates who voted for it's current, INCOMPETENT and TRAITOROUS leadership must be removed.
No quarter, less they return.
Newt now anchors the "Owens Wing" of the GOP:)
Or, it could mean that the conservative branch of the GOP is overtaking the RINOs for leadership of the party. Guess the RINOs will have to create a 3rd party or openly be Democrats. Ever since this "Big Top" ideology crept into the GOP we have lost races as well as the issues. Compromise in Democratic terms means we do things their way.
