Sarah Palin appeared on Tuesdays Good Morning America to promote her new book and hit back at liberal condescension from journalists, most notably attacking Katie Couric as arrogant. Speaking of her infamous interview with the CBS anchor during the 2008 campaign, Palin interpreted Courics question about what newspapers she read as "How up there in Alaska, in this kind of nomadic, Neanderthal atmosphere that you live in, how are you connected to the world?"
The former governor admitted to interviewer Barbara Walters: "Unfortunately, I was wearing my annoyance on my sleeve. And I shouldn't have done that. Because, it seemed to me that she was asking Do you read?" After noting that, at that point in the campaign, she had just completed an op-ed for the New York Times, Palin chided, "And that surprised me that [Couric] hadn't done that homework."

Eh. “What do you read?” is a standard soft-ball question.
Sarah found Katie to be arrogant,,,too?
Sarah should have known better to go on that scumbag’s show in the first place.
Couric was hoping Palin would reply: “Well I just finished the Turner Diaries and am now beginning to real all of the Uncle Fester manuals...”
It's used as a trip-up question in this case.
IMHO
You know, I totally forget Sarah Palain did an op-ed for The Slimes last year, before the Couric interview. This should slay that particular canard of “but, but she never read newspapers” FOR GOOD!
Sarah should avoid losers like couric who have no viewers.
Palin is too importat to interview with 2nd raters.
Palin is given many news clips to read a day. She probably don’t know exactly the source of every single one, so she said what she said, all and everything. Which to Couric, means she doesn’t read as she couldn’t answer specifically
Not really. Been in politics for decades and never heard it asked in a serious interview.
What Sarah should have replied was: “Well, it depends on the mood I’m in. When I’m really slumming it, I pick up the tabloids and read about your slutting around with younger guys you pick up at singles bars. Isn’t that why they call you Couric the Cougar?”
well i didn’t think there was any thing wrong with her answer. So she didn’t want to be specific, to not offend or leave out anyone. Instead her non-specific answer was used against her
Obama give of non-specific answer all the time, but you never hear the media jump to the conclusion that he doesn’t know. He’s just avoiding or that he’s being smart by not being specific.
When Sarah get non-specific, she’s dumb. Its totally double standard
Romney is a soft-ball.
During the Winfrey interview, Sarah seemed to communicate that she was practically ambushed by Couric for an interview that went on for hours.
Sarah had just finished a full day on the trail when she was basically flanked by Couric and all her clearly hostile interview.
With no prep time or moment to catch her breath, Sarah basically went straight into the interview with nary a fair question in sight.
Sarah was ambushed by Couric.
While I am proud of Sarah for being gracious, she really wasted several hours talking to that witch Couric.
Couric's ratings are only superceded by the 0bamanistas at CNN, and the septic tank programming from CBS is hardly worth Sarah's time.
Steve who? Does he have a job? Burger flipper at Burger King maybe? Oh he is a MANAGER.... gotcha.
Agreed. Also, Charlie Gibson was a setup. He was rude argumentative and condescending.
I have no problem if the (the MSM) wants to be that way and is that way with every candidate.
However, Obama always got the softball questions and kid glove treatment from the MSM since he was the anointed one. Likewise, it seemed that McCain got a little more favorable treatment than the other republican contenders.
McCain’s staff told her she did a good job. Does that mean McCain and his staff were trying to help O get elected? Looks like it to me.
Couric is a small town girl herself. The only difference is she went to New York City and became (at least in her own mind) and elite. Now Couric is defending her elitist status by showin the rest of the cocktail party circuit that she isn’t “one of them” anymore.
They are all so ridiculous... and so yesterday.
I was listening to a conservative talk show yesterday, and they played the famous “what do you read?” segment. I hadn’t heard it before, and had always figured that Couric somehow twisted it to make it awful. But really, she just asked Palin what news sources she usually read, and instead of just answering the (fairly standard) question, Palin danced all around it. I know some people will take this wrong, but really, Palin sounded like she either didn’t read anything or couldn’t fathom the question. Folks, this is not a hard question!! She should have been able to slam-dunk it and move on. If anyone asked me, I would tell them, “I read the WSJ, I read my local rag for local news, I read The Economist, I used to read The New Yorker but quit during the Iraq war because it turned into a mouthpiece for the far left, I read a lot of Terry Pratchett....” I could give Couric five solid minutes on what I read! Why couldn’t Palin?
What Sarah should have replied was: Well, it depends on the mood Im in. When Im really slumming it, I pick up the tabloids and read about your slutting around with younger guys you pick up at singles bars. Isnt that why they call you Couric the Cougar?
^^^
That was great! You made me LOL as I pictured Katie’s crooked mouth falling open at that answer.
