Acai Berry Vanity

Posted on 11/19/2009 1:11:19 AM PST by Global2010

Other than the ads that claim Acai Berry is a great diet supplement does any Freepers use it for a reason as a diet supplement in concentrated capsule form?

Thanks. Could not find any legit forums when I googled it is all ads promoting the product no real medical info.

And I dont count Dr. Oz as a legit resource.

I’ve watched it go from expensive “Amway” type sales:

To mainstream:

Haven’t researched the specific health benefits...antioxidant??

Some weeks back I remember seeing a flurry of ads warning about putative dangers of the stuff. Of course that might have just been the lawsuit troll of the day.

I picked some up for a doable price at the local Co-op.

Not falling for the free trial (and we auto charge you for the full price next month) gimmick.

It is suppose to be a concentrated antioxidant and V-Bs.

I am not a big supplement person as good wholesome diet works other than I do use V D3 due to low blood levels and no sun in our area.

I have been fasting for multiple reasons the last few months and found during the fast calcium/mag/zinc help with some issues during my cleansing fasts.

But I wonder if Acai has any real nutritional value or is just the latest scam or rama.

I guess I was looking for antioxidants without sugar/fruit kind or calories.

Then there was the claim (claim and I know better to listen to claims) that it naturally (as in no stimulant/manmade) is a appitite suppresant.

When I cleanse and use Mag/Cal the first thing I want when going back to food is purple cabbedge and apples.

I just recently added smoked sea salts to my diet as a taste helper and that has curbed allot of the craving for meat (I eat meat but in very small portions) also crimini mushrooms help curve the beef visual/brain cravings.

Long story short is I fell down about a year ago for many reasons and screwed up a good diet with crap food so getting back to what was working so well health wise and what better time to start then before the holidays, for me as a single person that is.

I am cooking the free turkey but no stuffing/potatoe/gravy just baked yams and other items that wont lead me back to the proccessed food diet.

I use it. It’s a little rough for a day or two because it gets things moving, if you know what I mean, but I feel good when I take it. It’s supposed to be a great antioxidant and the only supplement I take. I take the 500mg and got mine at Wal-Mart. It’s the Spring Valley brand. No bad side effects for me.

The internet buy me ads all claim they have the pure stuff and all others use fillers that have no value.

Basically the stock up of food/supplies I have done for emerg included goodies in the freezer and that was a Huge mistake to think that the freezer had some sort of unreachable power.

This was over the last year and being on many road trips I got into the mindset of whats one stop at Mc D or other fatty food at events we attended.

The ole who hoo were on a road trip.LOL
Not good if the road trips are often during the week.

I must say the two things I did try were oyster shooters (that will hold me for twenty years, more a bravado thing to do and the first time then second on the next trip of Fried Pork Belly and Grits, had never in my life ate grits and they were good)

That is just the tip of the iceberg, so now the last month I am returning to what works diet wise not what is yummy all the time diet wise.

I think it’s BS. I do not think it is worth the hype and cost. There are cheaper organic fresh fruits that are just as good.

I got to the point (where I was mentally three years ago with diet) of putting my mind to it.

Really taking it on, not just thinking about it.

I am already through the de tox and cleansed of the sug cravings (I wont turn down the portion sized treats that may end up on our door step during the Holidays, looking forward to kindness of others, I just wont buy any or use Holiday as goody excuse : ) ) after a month of fasting off and on so the hard mental battles are simmered down.

Yeah but better a berry cleansing than a backdoor colonic cleansing. : )

I have heard the claims that it does cleanse the 24ft of gut.

Does it give you any sensation of no hunger.

I dont do capsule well even the pure vegan type and those seem to make me feel full no matter what is inside them.

I am curious about the claim of delivering good B supplements via the pure berry extract.

Yeah when I was on the right track a few years back just the simple things in life like right now PNW apples are awesome and a huge treat. : )

And purple cabbedge? Last two weeks huge craving for purple cabbege.

The smoked sea salts are really awesome too as it gives that grilled/smoked flavor to salads or other veggie dishes so it is like having the meat flavor of a grill and salty without the over sized portions of actual meat.
Lotsa lemon juice/chili flakes/herbs and wierd ketchup...I have not bought ketchup in years but now crave ketchup...sugar perhaps.

I drink veggie juice and over the summer went weeks at a time eating mainly farm fresh tomatoes so maybe no farm fresh tomatoes have me wanting the sweet taste of Ketchup. Who knows.

Well I put out $14 bucks which is ALOT now a days for anything.

And you are right loading up the cart with a weeks worth of fresh fruit and veggies is the ultimate which is exactly what course I am on plus ridding the emerg supplies of all temptations.

LOL I cant keep goodies in the catastrophe emerg supplies.

And lucky for me I live way outta town so once we are home we are home.

It is the down time reading FR/posting that the thought/compulsion to hit snacks, so no snacks stashed no worries I dont bake and dont eat eggs ect...so no chance of whipping something up, besides my legs/feet are so dang tired/sore after a day of work running about that standing for more than a few minutes is unbearable late at night.

It is apple season up here in the PNW and we have two lovely types on the market right now that are sweet/crisp.

Subsitute ‘GOJI’ for ‘ACAI’ and roll the calendar back a year or two and you’ve got the very same frenzied marketing BS going on.

I tried the Goji juice during it’s 14-1/2 minutes of fame and it tastes good, no harm done, slight energy boost but you can get the same effect from a decent cup o’ coffee, and for about $50 bucks cheaper a bottle.

That is what my realist mind is thinking too.

I am not a coffee drinker but ice tea with a splash of juice and or stevea works for me.

I normally drink herb de caff iced tea but this herb tea I got on reduce to clear was the right price however I am too awake (normally a night owl, but not like this) and so I read the label and it says uses the finest black teas with fruit infused flavor...him I think that means it has caffiene.

I worked a 13 hr run today and should be really sleepy...so thinking black tea has caffeine.

And not being a coffee drinker (de caf per) the rest of the morning coffee high folks really drive me nuts...now I am just like one of THEM at 2:30 am...lights out by 3 or tommarrow will be hell.

The main benefit for me is the cleansing. I felt the best I’ve ever felt after my first colonoscopy. If you don’t over-do the Acai berry it cleans you out gently. My energy level stays up and I credit Acai for that. I enjoy steamed broccoli and cauliflower but if I eat too much I have terrible digestive upset. The Acai does a similar thing without the upset. I think the claim that it causes you to lose a bunch of weight works if you use Acai with colon cleansing products. The reason for that is because you stay on the toilet all the time. I opted for Acai only. I’ve dropped 6 pounds but I don’t know if it was the Acai or not. I try to eat good but going through menopause three years ago threw me all out of whack.

I can’t say it keeps me from being hungry. I tend to eat if I’m bored so I try to stay busy. I ride a mountain bike and walk as much as possible. My job is also very physical. I don’t know how to put this delicately but when I was going through menopause I was constipated ALL the time. That will cause weight gain. I haven’t had that problem since I started the Acai berry and I feel great. The hot flashes have even stopped. I can’t credit that to Acai berry but I’m just thankful they are gone. :-)

I am not even pre meno yet and have allot of friends who share your sufferings.

So the Acia maybe be one of those homeopathic avenues I can try when the pre change and full boar change comes.

God please let me be blessed with being a late changer. Since I was a late bloomer. : )

Thanks for sharing your exp. with Acia.

I tried the free offer, cautiously because of my high bp. Didn't lose any weight. It's main effect seemed to be to totally stop anything from moving through my intestines. Not good. But my issues are metabolism related, not what I eat.

Not good.
I found that out the hard way (no pun) a few years back when an accupuncturist suggest some chinese herb thing for pain.

I went to the doc dumbfounded at why my gut froze up as I was then eating a mostly high rougage diet.

First thing he asked what supplements are you taking when I told him he got that no wonder look on his face and told me knock of the chinese herb (can remember what the hell it was) as too much of a good thing can do the oppisite of what is intended.

Neverdem has some good pings to allot of bio/med threads and how each of our bodies interact with endocrine/diet/medical issues ect.

Well researched IMO.

So yeah metab/endocrine is a huge factor, like the thyroid hormone it runs just about everything in the body, I liken it to the idle system of a car.

So much in health and our individual body functions is so intertwined.

I like science that works on unraveling how it all relates as opposed to pharma cures that can kill.

And with your BP/metab issues you have to be really careful as you know about what you put in your body no matter how organic it is, it all tweeks the system.
