Here is video from Fox and Friends this morning where they talked about news that Rush Limbaugh was taken to the hospital last night in Hawaii. a Hawaii TV station reports that when paramedics arrived at Rush's hotel yesterday, he told them he was taking a medication for "back pain" that may have contributed to the chest pains he was having.

He is reportedly "resting comfortably" in the hospital. . . . (VIDEO)

At this point Rush is the most important voice on our side and that includes Sarah Palin.

No innuendo is intended in this posting.

I realized that, and wasn't referring to you. I have seen some pretty atrocious speculation, and death-wishes on the DU website.

Back pain severe enough for medication and golf just don't go together. Unless the back pain was brought on by the day's round of golf it makes zero sense.

I am a former golfer who stopped playing because of back pain.

Rush should take up snorkling. No pressure on the back. And Culebra is the perfect site for diving into the reefs. Jacques Cousteau stated that Culebra has the best coral reefs in the Caribbean. Part of Puerto Rico so you don’t leave the USA when visiting Culebra.

I first went surfing/diving in PR in 1969. The reefs around Rincon were amazing. Now they are dead, nothing but dull spikes. The change started in the seventies.

The last time I went underwater we took a Whaler out to Desecheo. No reef but great diving.

Thanks and I just took a double dose of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) this morning for my back pain!

Actually you are right on about NSAIDs but it's that or I won't be walking too well for the next few days. I fear with Rush however the chest pains had less to do with the pain medication (he was probably wisely just telling the paramedics what was in his system) and more to do with his heart. That dramatic weight fluctuation thing is very strenuous on the heart.

But I'm no doctor and I sure hope I'm wrong because in my book Rush has done more to advance the conservative cause than any other person alive. We need his voice now more than ever.

Exactly, when I see chest pain associated with pain medicine, I do not think narcs.

Either he is having PUD or posibly an MI triggered by NSAID induced coagulopathy.

I remember when the main treatment for MI was morphine. Things have changed a lot in the last 30 years.

I'd be interrogating the pharmacy staff right now, and haul in anyone who is a registered (D) or contributed to His Kenyaness's campaign.

And I am not kidding either.

who at the hospital violated the HIPPA rules and released the information or suspicions?

If this was anyone else heads would be rolling.

I wrote last week about the excruciating pain that the disc rupture caused and the painkillers that doctors prescribed to ease the situation. Some of you wrote to caution me about Vicodin and Percocet and their addictive qualities. One person in particular wrote to me about his own addiction, and in particular gave me solid advice on physiological conditions that would indicate an addictive response from my body. Given the very public nature of his addiction, his note had one hell of a lot of impact on the decisions I have made this week.

That man is Rush Limbaugh.

He read my post and wanted to make sure that I took precautions with pain medication in order to avoid the problems that he faced in very public (and very overblown) fashion.

It takes a special kind of person to reach out in those circumstances to a man unknown to him just to help protect that man from a danger he might not see. That correspondence informed my decisions in the hospital to hold down my pain medication and to transfer to Ibuprofen as soon as possible. I’ve been fortunate; my pain since the surgery has allowed me to rely on the over-the-counter analgesic instead of the Vicodin and Percocet. Had I never heard from Rush, I might not have had the discipline to make that decision.

I had a similar problem with some pain meds prescribed by an Air Force Flight Surgeon some 22 years ago. The pains seemed to indicate a heart attack but it wasn’t, everything was normal. It seems that the medication caused my back and chest muscles and diaphram to spasm pretty painfully but it was not my heart.

RE: “24/7 listeners will know Rush has complained about a pinched nerve in his neck. That sometimes he has to stand, saying it doesn’t look good on the ditto cam.”

***********

I visited the doc re cervical radiculopathy (pinched nerve) problems myself recently. For months I’d had off and on pain in left shoulder, arm and neck, with addition of numbness and tingling down left arm and pain in left wrist.

Finally it got so bad I couldn’t stand it anymore and went to doc. He examined me and gave advice on steps that are taken to remedy it, short of surgery. It can be a long and slow process. He told me this initial episode would last 3-4 weeks. It was like 7 weeks and yes, I’ve had some left sided chest pains as a result of it.

I got Vicodin and Soma but only took them for a few days as I can’t stand the side effects; but sitting down as one does at a desk or riding in or driving a car was sheer torture. I had trouble sleeping and had to get into the most ridiculous positions to make that possible. It’s all about that nerve moving a teeny bit to relieve the pain.

Years ago I had sciatica and lower back pain for over six months due to herniated disks so I’ve been through it all.

I would not be shocked if Rush experienced chest area pains from this but it could be heart-related too, all of which explains why he needs a lot of testing and examination to see what’s what.

I wish him a speedy recovery and return to the EIB mike soon!!!
