The Raiders will be killing time Sunday against Baltimore, whether they win, lose or lose by a lot. The real story comes immediately thereafter when the lottery on Tom Cable's firing begins.
The early betting is on Thursday, because Al Davis tends to wait for the internal postseason self-examination process, in which the coach who is about to get fired has to hear about why he's going to be fired. But it could come as early as Monday (six percent), Tuesday (21 percent) or maybe even Wednesday (nine percent).
And if you like the long money, Davis could wait and make Cable go to the Senior Bowl before doing the deed.
But the end game is upon us, and while the moment at which Davis decided Cable was no longer the guy is still open to conjecture, until Al decides in his traditional coach-firing press conference to tell us, it came long before Monday's last straw.
Yes, last Monday, when Cable tried his own 76-yard field goal, dismissing quarterback JaMarcus Russell as not yet ready to actually earn the money he has been given. Cable threw every lefthanded compliment he could at Russell, knowing that (a) it would be taken as a vote of no-confidence-ever in the third-year quarterback, and (b) that Davis would be watching every word with rising blood pressure.

Let the speculating begin!
Davis has run that once great franchise into the ground.
Not a fan of Cable, but Davis won’t butt out of the running of the team on the field, and Russel is a apathetic B-U-S-T.
When a career back up Qb in in Gradkowski can rally the team, the jig is up on Russel, maybe he can play left tackle?
