Omission accomplished(Rock and Roll Hall of Fame snubs)
Boston Herald ^ | March 14, 2010 | Ira Kantor

Five performing acts will be inducted into the the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tomorrow at a ceremony at New York’s Waldorf Astoria hotel (Fuse TV, 8:30 p.m.). One rocked insanely hard: punk pioneers the Stooges. Two rocked more subtly, but left their mark: British Invasion band the Hollies and arty Genesis. Jimmy Cliff didn’t rock at all: He sang reggae, but the Hall of Fame has never had a problem stretching its boundaries. Which explains its otherwise mind-boggling embrace of ABBA. Meanwhile, musicians and bands who meet the Hall of Fame’s eligibility criteria (at least 25 years elapsed since the release of their first album) but have been excluded are left to wonder why. Consider these 15 acts the Rock Hall continues to shun (ranked in order of least- to most-egregious omission).

Any band that Jann Wenner doesn’t deem appropriate has no shot.

Big “agree” on Stevie Ray Vaughn. Texas Flood sounded great when I was a kid and still does.

>>KISS omitted again? Unbelievable.

Once they found out the 2 (gene and paul) frontmen were pro-military, they were blacklisted. Genesis..rock? ABBA? Why dont they just call it the Homosexual Rock of Fame..

Laura Nyro passed over? Even most male songwriters are unworthy to bear her slippers but in the immortal words of David Lee Roth, “The reason why most rock critics like Elvis Costello is because most rock critics LOOK like Elvis Costello!”

On NEITHER the RRHOF’s list OR the “great omissions” list was one TED NUGENT.

I mean...come ON!

And still no Alice Cooper! Even this writer didn't think to include Alice in his "15 Acts That Should ..." column!

Unbelievable!

They forgot Vanilla Fudge, one of the top powerhouse bands of the late 1960s who pioneered “orchestral rock.”

Regardless of this list, a visit to the HOF is fantastic. I’ve been twice and spent the entire day both times. Absolutely love the exhibits and the wealth of information available.

Jeff Lynne is the only Traveling Wilbury not in the R&R HOF and arguably the most talented of all five.

Not to mention his massive work as ELO front man as writer, singer, lead guitarist and producer. Collaborative works with The Beatles as a group, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Helen Reddy, Olivia Newton John and Del Shannon individually. Oh yea, also rated as one the top 5 producers ever in Rock n Roll. When the Beatles could have picked anyone to produce Free as a Bird, they went to Jeff.

Should be in the R&R HoF without question, but no, the likes of Madonna being in before Lynne makes this thing a joke.
