Peter King of SI.com makes a point in his Monday Morning Quarterback column that reflects a sentiment that has been quietly spreading through the league: the Steelers need to have a plan at quarterback for 2010 in the event that Ben Roethlisberger isn't available.
Though the key moment in this regard remains the ultimate decision on whether charges will be filed, the fact that the case already has created enough of a mess to keep Roethlisberger away from offseason workouts underscores the gravity of the situation. How serious is it? Says King, "I've been alarmed by some of the hearsay I've heard said about the Roethlisberger case."

Roethlisberger should stay out of bars, and away from women absent a professional chaperon. Someone needs to remind him that NOTHING good happens after 12:00 am.
couldn`t happen to a team i hate more due to the rooneys and their racist hiring rules.
FU steelers

I hadn't read that, but I don't question its accuracy. Of course, that begs the question, "Why would a chaperon, let alone two chaperons, allow their principle to enter a restroom with a woman?" How is that a good idea, ever?
how so?
If the case is closed without charge, the commissioner should suspend him for all four preseason games (since Ben put himself in a position to embarrass the team and the league), but warn him that any additional incidents will lead to greater penalties.
Guilty or innocent, Big Ben is an idiot.
Ever hear of the Rooney Rule?
Also, Mr. Rooney was a HUGE Obama supporter, and got himself an ambassadorship out of it.

May your only son be goalie on nudist hockey team.
lol
Being from Cleveland , I hate everything Steelers. Having said that, if we condemned every single athlete in their twenties that got involved with a fan you could hold a Hall of Fame reunion in a telephone booth.
Could the extraordinarily "cap conscious" Steelers afford McNabb? I don't know.
No question. But, Roethlisberger has shown remarkable stupidity here because he already has prior and pending civil litigation hanging over his head based on similar events.
The fact of the matter is should he lose at trial on that case (even though it's a civil trial), he's facing a league suspension. Then, to spend time (any time) with a woman in a public restroom, in a bar and after imbibing, shows an extraordinary flippancy about his own situation.
I wonder what Rush Limbaugh would think if Donovan McNabb became a Steeler? Or if McNabb would join the team since this is Rush’s favorite team?
He is still an idiot. He is a multi-millionaire. Why is he trolling college campuses? He has NO class. A total amateur.
Guys like him can go to a big city where there are sophisticated night clubs to meet those needs.
The guy is a total loser with very bad judgement, both on and off the field (holds onto the ball too long).
I’m sure McNabb would love to play for the team that brought us the “Rooney Rule”.
Be careful sourcing “profootballtalk”, they have a long standing reputation for throwing up rumors, taking credit for the ones that pan out, and forgetting the ones that do not.
“Ben had two off-duty Pittsburgh cops with him as unofficial chaperones down at that bar,”
“I hadn’t read that, but I don’t question its accuracy. Of course, that begs the question, “Why would a chaperon, let alone two chaperons, allow their principle to enter a restroom with a woman?” How is that a good idea, ever?”
Maverick did this on Top Gun.
