Two elderly otters who were best friends and lived side-by-side for 15 years have both died of a heart attack within an hour of each other. It's thought the second heartbroken animal passed away from the stress of watching his mate die. Daz and Chip both male lived and died at Naturelands Zoo in Nelson, New Zealand.

April homosexual fools day?
watching his mate die
I’m assuming this is Kiwi/Aussie use of “mate”, as in buddy. That’s what I’m assumin’, anyway...

I was thinking the same thing but the Brits are big animal lovers so the Daily Mail would get it if this was a joke.
BEST MATES: Daz, 19, and Chip, 16, Natureland's two elderly male otters, died suddenly last week.
Victims of the National Health?
Totally gay.
Like muskrat love, only different.
Isn’t that “mite?”
I had two cats that were inseparable. They bonded instantly from the time I brought one home as a kitten. Dusty, the younger one, was diagnosed with lung cancer at age 10 and put down with a month of diagnosis. It broke my heart. Her 13 year old buddy, Whammy, went into grief mode and never recovered. He joined his buddy at the Rainbow Bridge 3 months later. Whammy just couldn't live without his friend, no matter how much love and affection I gave him.
Oh boy, if the otters didn’t get the tears rolling, this did. Sorry about your cats. We are cat lovers as well and have a pair that have been together for years. Thinking of them passing on is painful.
Driving into work today I saw two road kill beavers within about twenty feet. I assume they must have been mates. :( Now I’m not a sensitive kinda guy but hate to see animals run over by a car.
I now have two beautiful dogs and wonder how each would react to losing the other. Makes me sad to think of. Of course, losing my only cat, who just turned 17, would send me over the edge. She's been with me through every major event in my life. Just don't want to think about it...
I hate seeing road kill, always makes me sad. A couple of times I’ve caught land turtles trying to cross a busy road. I always pull over, pick them up, and carry them over to a safer place, hoping they won’t try it again. But they probably got squished a couple days later. I don’t know turtles have any sense of danger.
Sounds like something you might hire the services of at a low-rent truck stop.
So sad, both your story and this otter story. I also have two cats that are absolutetly inseperable. They are both indoor cats, but one of them likes to sneak out for a few days at a time (we call them his Safaris).
The other one is so bummed and depressed until his friend comes home. He calls for him all night long. They’re funny.
Aww...it does seem like those things happen in bunches. We love them so much, our wonderful furry companions.
Isnt that mite?
BWAHAH! Point taken - Castlemain XXXX is on me!
