Hey all. I am relatively new to posting at Free Republic although I have donated and read posts for years.
Ironically I have posted to blogs and all other types of groups but I have not had much luck getting my posts published on FR.
Is there some guidance I can follow that will help me better place my posts? I can't find a Q&A or other guide.
For example, if you a referencing a news article should you post it only under News or under other topic headings as well. Finally, do all the posts end up in the Forum and the categories are used simply to reduce the number of results when searched?
Thanks all!
Reply to comments on existing threads your first year.
After that, further instructions will be made availabe.
Avoid the bloggers area, it is a trap for pimps.
That is all.

I keep helpful threads with links to posting prodecures there.
(Note: You should post a rantity. A very long one. USE LOTS OF CAPS TOO!!! I guarantee you will be pleasantly surprized.)
Just blunder through it. If you do something wrong, the thread nazis will be sure to let you know.
You need to know about this:

There are other helpful “do and don’t” threads that I had bookmarked, but my hard drive crashed and I lost them. Someone else will likely provide them.
Welcome!
I take it you are posting and the posts are deleted? Or, instead, are you attempting to post and can't complete a post?
If it is a post written personally by you, “chat” or presonal/blogger area woud be appropriate.
General news, like a story about a local politician committing a crime, from your local newspaper, might be posted under news/activism with subheadings of crime/corruption, politics, “your state”.
THANK YOU! The link is very helpful because I read about the lawsuit against FR and don’t want to add to the problem.
What a distraction and smack down for the founder who is only trying to facilitate free speech. Glad it was settled for a relatively small sum.
BOOKMARKED IT! Thanks guys, I appreciate you not flaming me for being a newbie!
Relative must be a distant word in your vocabulary. You are nOOb. LOL
Just post and have a good time. If it feels like someone is picking on you because you are FNG, too bad. Take it.
If you get flamed, deal with it.
I was trying to think of an excellent reply to your post but feel I need a Rosetta Stone to interpret your question. Do they make one for your tribe?
Okay, enough with FNG nOOb stuff.
Welcome to FR and post away. You will get a feel for who you like/dislike, who are the grammar Nazie(they they word alot, because, well, they have a lot of time and it isn’t a word anyway). Feel free to ignore them or take them on.
Don’t worry about grammatical mishakes. We all do it and we can ‘unstand what you meant anyway. If we don’t we will ask or let you know.
There are not stupid questions, just stoopid people and there ain’t no cure for them.
If you need help, raise a hand. Most around here will gladly point you in the right direction, some will tell you to get lost or send you the great html sandbox, all because you are new.
and because you are knew adn no nuttin’, ya gonna get razed and it’s jus’ ev-ones way uh sayin’ welcum, Cuz you da new guy.
Again, Welcome to FR.
Post on.
Thank you for your service.
And with all the other advice you have already received, ignore the posts that ask if you are signed in. Most of them are good-natured. :)
The crew here is going to have some fun with you first.
First, turn on your computer. Then you must log in.
bttt
Ah yes. I do miss ‘The Other Harry.’
There are posting guidelines on the Free Republic help page...

(Note: a URL pasted into a reply will automatically become a clickable link, but if you put any HTML code in the reply such as for paragraphs, then you must also include the HTML code that makes the URL a clickable link.)
I got into trouble for that about 8.5 years ago.
It still burns.
