Pupils "sadistically tormented" at German monastery

Children were "sadistically tormented and also sexually abused" at a Catholic monastery in Pope Benedict's native Bavaria, according to a new report commissioned by the Roman Catholic Church.

World A lawyer investigating accusations of abuse in a Benedictine monastery school in Ettal presented a final report to the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising Monday, including 173 pages of victims' accounts of abuse. "My investigations quite clearly show that for decades up until around 1990, children and adolescents were brutally abused in the Ettal monastery," Thomas Pfister said in a statement.

"The number of victims' accounts has increased significantly since the intermediary report of March 5," added Pfister, who said last month that hundreds of pupils had been beaten and some sexually abused at the school.

An archdiocese spokesman said he could not comment on the specific number of victims before a news conference Tuesday.

Nice picture but horrific account if true.

Yet the article states:
“My investigations quite clearly show that for decades up until around 1990, children and adolescents were brutally abused in the Ettal monastery,” Thomas Pfister said in a statement.”

As before these claims are 20-40 years old and one must ask why none of these pupils, individually or collectively, or any of their friends or their parents, not one, were ever told about any of this “brutal” abuse and why not one single civil authority was so notified of this? This has got to be the best kept conspiracy in the world.

Shoot the abusers; no matter what their title or who they work for.

They have a brewery there.

We passed it often when we lived in Stuttgart and traveled to Garmisch to ski. The US forces, after the war, took over and refurbished hotels Hitler had built for R and R for the Nazi troops.

Could it simply be that what is called abuse today was normal treatment 20-40 years ago?

Part of the problem is that according to the Vatican's Crimen Sollicitationis the victim and his family are sworn to secrecy from the time of the abuse until 10 years after the victim reaches the age of 18 upon threat of excommunication.

That threat explains a lot of lag time.

Why should we trust any Euroweenie?

"The science is settled..." and all that.

Not to mention the McMartin preschool trial in the states and all that...this is merely a homosexual attack on the Catholic Church: lashing out now that their attempt to infiltrate has petered out.

I sometimes wonder what the New York Slimes would have done if the Catholic Church had done a little digging followed by a core dump of their own, of the infiltration of Communists and queers into the Church hierarchy.

Cheers!

Oh yes, I forgot the McMartin Case and that was subjected to all the inquiry of a modern legal system and the defendants were all convicted until the whole house of cards fell when the fraud was revealed.

You've been debated vehemently and repeatedly on this point, Dr. Eckleberg.

Could you please post the relevant text from this Crimen Sollicitationis in order to gauge the accuracy of what you claim?

I don't mean to sound as if I'm challenging you. I just want to nip an other endless round of recriminations in the bud. If it's there in black and white, then it's there. If it's not, it's not.

Incredibly, you posted again, this:

“Part of the problem is that according to the Vatican’s Crimen Sollicitationis the victim and his family are sworn to secrecy from the time of the abuse until 10 years after the victim reaches the age of 18 upon threat of excommunication.”

I asked you to prove this before. Will you do it now? Or will you run from another thread?

Crimen sollicitationis (Latin: the crime of soliciting) was a 1962 letter from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (or Holy Office) codifying procedures to be followed in cases of priests or bishops of the Catholic Church accused of having used the sacrament of Penance to make sexual advances to penitents.

Signed by Cardinal Alfredo Ottaviani, Secretary of the Holy Office, it was addressed to “all Patriarchs, Archbishops, Bishops and other Local Ordinaries, including those of Eastern Rite”. It gave specific instructions on how to carry out the rules in the Code of Canon Law:[1] on dealing with such cases, and directed that the same procedures be used when dealing with denunciations of homosexual, paedophile or zoophile behaviour by clerics. Dioceses were to use the instruction for their own guidance and keep it in their archives for confidential documents;[2] they were not to publish the instruction nor produce commentaries on it.[3]

Media accounts sometimes presented the instruction as not concerned principally with sexual solicitation in Confession, but with denunciations of paedophilia, and reported interpretations of the oath of secrecy about the conduct of the trial as a generic oath of secrecy, contrary to what the instruction itself stated.[4]

The 18 May 2001 document De delictis gravioribus updated Crimen sollicitationis in line with the 1983 Code of Canon Law, which had replaced the 1917 Code that was in force in 1962.

I know all that. I also was the one who posted these documents on FR (to Dr. E no less). What I want is what I asked for from Dr. E.

I doubt she will post the evidence.

While there have been additions and addendum to Crimen Sollicitations, it has never been rescinded.

The 2001 document, written by Ratzinger, reiterates the need for secrecy for all involved. The point of his letter was to reaffirm the tenets of CS to all bishops.

That letter was one reason why victims charged Ratzinger with obstruction of justice and why he had to retreat under the protection of diplomatic immunity to avoid prosecution.

Dude...that’s just bogus. Flat out bogus. And silly. And it’s pretty silly to think that it could even be true.

So, maybe you should stop repeating it.

I’m sure you know that Crimen Sollicitations refered ONLY to when a priest used the confessional to solicit sexual favors. So, it has no bearing on this case, which had to do with abuse at a school. So your assertion is wrong on that point.

Second, Canon Law, which trumps anything else, requires any such solicitation to be reported IMMEDIATELY. So, once again, your claim doesn’t apply, because it ain’t true.
