During a routine doctor visit, actress Pam Grier was stunned when her physician sat her down for a serious talk about a bizarre and dangerous epidemic that was rocking the nether regions of women in Hollywood a buildup of cocaine residue.
The doc asked if she was doing drugs, and she said no. Then perhaps her partner might be sneaking off for a quick pre-coitus snort?
Thats a possibility, she said. I am dating Richard Pryor.
Of all the surprises in Foxy, a memoir from the Afrod goddess of blaxploitation, a chick with drive who dont take no jive! as one tagline put it, the biggest is that Grier is endearingly innocent. Surrounded by drugs, sex and abuse, Grier, by her telling, was the straight one, trying to hold her life together through a string of broken men and stereotyped roles.
With a father in the Air Force, she moved constantly, spending time during her childhood in Columbus, Denver, San Jose, even England. Growing up with a large extended family, Griers mother worked hard as a nurse, while her Aunt Mennon served as a different sort of role model shoving a womans head in the toilet for even looking at her man. Later, these two women would inspire two of Griers most important roles: respectively, the title characters in Coffy and Foxy Brown.

I met Pam Grier once. She’s about the nicest person you could run into.
She is one baaaaaad mutha....SHUT YO MOUTH!
I love Pam Grier. She should have gotten an Oscar nomination for “Jackie Brown”.
Pam Grier was great in Steven Seagal’s first movie: “Above the Law” (1988).
She is still a gorgeous, but back in the day with her huge afro, stunning face and figure....she was a formidable woman.
Interesting read on Pam Grier.
CaptainK - 100% correct! One of the best American films of all time. Forster and Jackson were fabulous...actually the entire cast was great! Plus Pam is HOT, even at 60+!!!
How’d you like that part about her being scared of that horndog Sammy ? I figure she could’ve broke him in two. =8-0
It’s a great movie. If I happen upon it while changing channels I’ll watch it no matter what part it’s up to.
Me too! Tarantino’s best film.
I can remember seeing Jackie Brown in the theatres, and, at first viewing, I found it anti-climactic after the overkill of Pulp Fiction. On subsequent viewings, however, I found the “subtle Tarantino” to be just as engaging as the manic one. Great performances by Grier and Forrester. Bridget Fonda did a good job as a coke-addled ditz.
Sammy, like Frank Booth, would (blank) everything that moves, even (per Linda Lovelace) trying the dude on dude thing back in the 1970s. Must have been all that hanging with Anton Levey.
Tarantino’s best film to date. Bridget Fonda was good as well.
“Louis” “Louissssssssss” “Is it down this row?”
“Is she dead?”
“Pretty much.”
