The biggest freakin box of cornflakes you ever saw in your life!!!
Winco foods has opened a store nearby, so I went in to check it out.
Very good prices. They have posted for various items the comparable prices at other local supermarket chains and distributors, and Winco beats them hands down, I would say by 20% or so.
The selection is HUGE, and they have many items that come in bulk (I bought a can of pork and beans SEVEN POUNDS, a #10 can, for 5.98).
I was thinkin when I entered that they might not have much veggie-wise or meats, but they have a complete bakery, huge dairy section, lots of vegetables and a pretty good selection of sundries.
They also had a shelf full of Mountain House freeze dried meals, which I expect before the day is over, I will be back there and just buy them out.
But!!!
No frills. Bag your own stuff. Nothing on sale. Most importantly, a big sign when you enter that basically says "the banks have screwed everybody over with the credit card fees, yada yada, to keep our prices down, NO CREDIT CARDS...
Oh, and the box of corn flakes, I'm not much of a breakfast guy so I didn't buy it. But if you have kids, it would be a good deal. Eat the flakes, then put the box in your driveway and now you have a garage for your Hyundai!!
And if anyone has used the Mountain House freeze dried meals, I'd love to hear your opinions.
You going to make some baked beans? Add some brown sugar, cooked ground beef and bacon.... don’t let them be too runny. YUM
;-)
I am on the east coast. Sounds good for a Store.
We shop their because the prices ARE the lowest. However in our area you have to bag you own stuff...
Rig a harness to the empty cereal box; finish off the seven pounds of beans, and float off to paradise.
Why do you need 7 pounds of pork and beans?
Cut an onion in half, then thinly slice into half-moons. Saute it with chopped green pepper, a little jalapeno too if you like the kick. Add it to the above with a squirt of mustard, too. That’s my Dad’s Cowboy Beans, and it’s the food of the gods. Yum.
I’ve never heard of them but I recently discovered Aldi. I shop there first before I go to my regular store. I save a lot of $ but I found that I am the worst bagger on earth :-)
I forgot the onion.... wow.
Ahhh...Now I see
Some of the stuff in my survival box is made by Mountain House.
It's quite tasty.

Remind me to stay far, far away from you after you enjoy said can of pork and beans.
Most of the reviews I’ve read are pretty positive.
We have ‘em in our neck of the woods, too. Great deals if you shop ‘em right. We too have No 10 cans of various bean products. When the best defense is offense...
