It can make you blind if you use enough of it. Part of it breakes down to methanol, which even in microscopic quantities is very hazardous to your retinas.

Nobody can consume enough aspartame at one time to produce enough formaldehyde to get sick or go blind.
Since I put it in my coffee for years I read up on these allegations, they are such hyperbole. I never had any problem. However the powers that be now prefer splenda, so that’s what we have in the house now.
Dont use it if it bothers you, if it doesnt bother you, I doubt it will hurt you. I have near zero tolerance for the FDA but I have to agree with them on this one, it really does look safe.
