.
The ‘aldehyde’ part depends on the presence of copper in your intestines, but without it it remains as methanol, which is worse.

I have heard this same thing before.
I use NO ARTIFICAL SWEETNERS and never, ever add sugar to anything I eat.
Sugar is bad for you, so the thing to do is attenuate your desire for it. IMHO

I heard that also from my martial arts trainer.
I also heard that Aspartame can turn into formaldehyde at high temps such as 85-120 F. So, leaving a diet soda in the sun, then re-cooling it could mean you’re drinking formaldehyde.
I’m no expert; I’m just repeating what I’ve heard.

It turns into in your gut and causes neurological damage. So does every type of Alcohol you ingest.
One beer contains about 4000x more alcohol than a diet soda does, so if the trace amounts of formaldehyde created by the methanol in Aspartame causes damage, then drinking one beer should kill you instantly.
The are also many other bodily processes that create formaldehyde in greater quantities than Aspartame.
This formaldehyde BS is just more liberal food/health Nazi scare tactics

These statements are either irrelevant or false. Formaldehyde is produced by your own body as part of the normal metabolic process. There is nothing in aspartame in amounts commonly encountered in food that will cause neurological damage. If you want to say methanol then you'd better tell people to lay off fresh fruits and vegetables because they have naturally occurring methanol in amounts equivalent to or greater than that formed as a byproduct of aspartame metabolization.
