Boeing's 787 Dreamliner promises to make jetlag and air sickness a thing of the past
The Daily Mail (UK) ^ | 7-19-2010 | Jonathan Margolis

From a distance, it almost looked like one of my old plastic Airfix kits - smooth, flexible and light.

And as it glided into view, zooming across the leaden skies, I realised I was almost as excited about this as I used to be about constructing miniature Harrier jets on the kitchen table. But jet engines have always made my heart race, and yesterday, in a windy field in Hampshire, was no exception.

The new 787 arrives at the Farnborogh air show in England. Nice video showing it landing with it's two huge and lovely Rolls Royce Merlin engines not that defective General Electric sh*t made by Obama's GE the scum company.

The good news is the 787 I think will be made in SC so it will have fewer scum union workers.

The economy seats onboard will be bigger, more comfortable and with more legroom than on any current passenger aircraft

Oh the airlines will figure out how to cram in more seats quickly enough. Seat pitch is an airline decision, not a manufacturer's decision.

Yeah, but long-haul aircraft are different. Especially in business class.

The B787 is made mostly overseas. It is one of the least "American-made" of any airliner made in the past 15 years.

I hope they use it for many domestic flights. I prefer a larger wide body plane on flights of 3 hours or more. I especially don’t like the cramped regional jets but they are being used on some long flights now too.

Jetlag has to do with a person’s internal clock, and takes a week to get rid of once you have gotten use to the new time zone. When I was overseas, my body wanted to sleep in the afternoon, and I couldn’t sleep at all, in the middle of the night. I read the article, maybe I missed it, but I didn’t see how they plan to rid passengers of jetlag.

Actually this plane was designed for long direct flights. It has a range of almost 8000 miles and is mainly trying to get around the hub concept of airlines where you use big planes between big hubs and small planes fanning out on either side. The 787 is for Seattle to Paris or LA to Rome nonstop.

My secret to no jetlag... I drink lots of water on the plane. When I arrive to my destination I do not take a nap and try to stay up as late as possible. (10-11 PM) I get up the next day and stay awake and active all day.

The trips that I have come back home and sat on my couch to watch a little TV - WHAM, I fell asleep early in the afternoon or evening. When my sleep has been over an hour or two - I have JET LAG.

So, my real secret is to stay away from my couch. I go to the mall, a restaurant, shopping anything to stay away from a place that I could fall asleep easily.

Most of the economy plus upgrades have to be by men. I just don't’ see a woman paying $187 for 4 inches...

Thanks, I’ll heed the advice, on my next trip overseas, the problem may be I don’t go to often, so perhaps that has something to do with it.

>>> My secret to no jetlag... I drink lots of water on the plane. When I arrive to my destination I do not take a nap and try to stay up as late as possible. The approved method is when you arrive at your destination, take off your shoes and dig your bare feet into the carpet. Highly recommended by experts.

There’s something to be said for the 2/1 seating in regional jets. As a frequent solo traveler, it’s nice to sit all by myself in that single seat, plug in some noise canceling earphones and avoid all contact with the other idiots on the plane.

I'm still PO'ed no smoking on a plane. Used to be one of the joys of life.

Good book, good beer and a good cig.
