An Artesia man says vicious pit bulls keep getting into his yard forcing him and his family to stay inside.
The problem has been going on for almost a year and Jason Shirey says he is fed up.
Shirey killed one of his neighbor's pit bulls last year with a shot gun after it went into his yard and charged at him. Shirey's most recent run in with his neighbor's dogs happened early Monday morning.
"I don't want to come out and find one of my dogs dead. I don't want to be attacked by a pitbull or my kids, my wife getting attacked," said Shirey.
Shirey called Artesia Police and they again returned the dog to the neighbor's yard where it belonged.
Artesia police have cited the dog's owner seven times in the past 11 months for the dogs getting out. The city ordinance does not specify how many citations need to be issued before further action is taken.
"Those choices ranges from no action, to verbal or written warnings, to a written citation for crimes that can be cited for, to arrest," Said Sgt. Lindell Smith of the Artesia Police Department.
Sgt. Smith says it's up to the discretion of the responding officer whether an arrest should be made.
"It's unfortunate that somebody would feel trapped in their own home because of a dog, his relationship with his neighbor," said Sgt. Smith.
Shirey just hopes police will step in before he has to take the law into his own hands again.
"I hope it's not somebody getting seriously hurt or a little kid getting mauled, but that maybe what it takes," said Shirey.
This problem would have lasted about a week-and a full mag..
For heaven’s sake, shoot the dam mutt. Do us all a favor.
Very nice !

That’s a scary way to live. He probably got away with shooting the last dog by the skin of his teeth. Canine terrorism at its finest.
< sarc >Sounds like time to shoot the neighbor!< /sarc >
Geez, y’all. No firearm needed. Marinate a steak in Prestone for about 4 days & toss over the fence.
“Homie ate a bad piece of something” while on one of his “forays” around the neighborhood.
Ain’t a thing a vet can do, EVEN if they catch it in time.
Beautiful side arm, but let’s not be too gauche. Think subtlety.
Take a zip lock bag and put a few ounces of anti-freeze into it. Toss in three milk bones and let them absorb the anti-freeze. Then, leave skippy a little treat in the yard for him to find.
Of course, I type this entirely tongue-in-cheek.
Dude... I’m no fan of pit bulls, but that’s a crappy way to kill any dog. It’s slow and excruciating. Not cool.

Cry me a river. Neither is chewing up and spitting out an 8 year old.

BTW, I have 2 dogs, (one a pit mix), two cats, and spent over 5840 volunteer hrs. & $4k out of my own pocket last year rehabbing injured & orphaned wildlife.
There are many occasions where common household chemicals, such as rodenticide, are legally used around the home. Were one of these pit bulls to accidentally ingest this rodenticide in his backyard, it would be regarded as a tragic accident.
Of course, the homeowners dogs would be kept inside while such a toxic agent was being used against rodents, so would not be at risk.
An amount of this bait could be pre-made, to be put out whenever the homeowner suspected rodents were about.
Nice looking Colt, but you cannot silence a revolver.

Your kind of thread
Anti-freeze meatballs do the trick. This issue wouldn’t have lasted a month (I am fair, I would give them some time to fix the issue first), then I would have fixed it myself without making any more issue.
