A proud declaration of faith (Hijab Barf Alert)

Young area women say they wear the hijab to be closer to God, although head covering has drawn criticism.

Huda Kahlid was walking through the Rice University campus one night last year when she heard someone in a car scream, "Jihad!"

The 21-year-old student didn't let the heckler upset her, knowing she was targeted because of her hijab.

"It's all about God, so you don't let those things get to you," said Wardah Kahlid, 24, who remembers laughing with her younger sister about the encounter.

Muslim women wear the scarf or cloth wrapping over their hair to be closer to God and to obey the Quran, Wardah said. The Arabic word translates into "modesty."

"First and foremost, we believe God wants Muslim women to wear it," Wardah Kahlid said. "We do it because God wants us to."

The Kahlid sisters - Wardah, Huda and 19-year-old Thuba, all began wearing hijabs last summer.

I guess "allah" didn't care if they wore the things or not until last summer.

They do have the right to wear that in America. If they want to deal with the heat, the lack of individuality, and the difficulty in communication it comes with, OK. Other people dress to suit religious teachings. Nuns, Mennonites, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Orthodox Jews, and some fundamentalist Christian women all have dress codes that are not our societal norm.

If you had ever seen some of these hose-beasts up close, you'd be on God's side with this one. I think the face covering is the only way their old men can keep dinner down.

Hey lady!

Either you take off that mask or I’m taking you down to the station.

They seem to think that “God” wants them to do this, but “God” has nothing to with it.

I keep seeing more and more references to ‘my’ God, as opposed to the muslim ‘allah’ in articles about the ROP, and it’s beginning to make my eyes pop.

These girls are following the traditions and customs of ‘allah’, who is not the Jehovah, the One True God, Lord Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth of Jewish and Christian Biblical truth and life.

They - or the reporters writing the story - should stop mixing up the two, lest they cause the ignorant to think Jehovah/God and allah are the same, and they accept that lie and stop seeking the Truth.

Jehovah God is loving, merciful, forgiving, just, light and truth.

allah is brutal, deceitful, harsh, unfair, nonsensical; at least demonic, if not Satan himself, if NOT, then just the figments of a pedophile’s imagination.

Sorry for the rant, but my head wants to explode more and more as I see anyone refering to allah as “God”.

If God had wanted us all to look alike he would have made us that way.

Nothing to be sorry about.

Your “rant” should become mantra and be taught in all schools, public and private, lest our children fall into a religious version of moral equivalency.

The Djinn (voices) that Mohammed heard during his epileptic fits (which punctuated his sessions of pedophilia, murder, thievery, rape and pillage) were most certainly not angelic in nature.

These people who use the term “God” know exactly what they are doing, masking a political, cultural and social agenda that would be the death of Western (and Christian) civilization.

Correct. The women are simply enslaved by their man-made religion.

I very respectfully disagree. The crux is not whether the hijab is uncomfortable to the user. The crux is that the hijab is a symbol of a death cult that wants to destroy everything I hold dear, including myself and my family.

The hijab, and indeed all elements and symbols of islam as well as islam itself, has no place on this continent. Islam is the antithesis to the freedoms that we as Americans hold dear.

When our cold war with islam breaks out into a shooting war, and Americans are forced to defend themselves against acts of violence committed in the name of this death cult, those that support islam peripherally (like newspaper reporters who write puff pieces proclaiming the awesomeness of islam, like this one) will get what is coming to them, as they are our enemies also. Their subtext in appeasing islam is "Please muzzie, kill me last". Not only do I not respect a simpering, cowardly leftist who takes this stance, but I hold him as my mortal enemy in the battle against intolerant islam. The author of this piece is aiding the enemy in a time of war. That's treason.

Nuns, Mennonites, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Orthodox Jews, and some fundamentalist Christian women all have dress codes that are not our societal norm.
Perhaps no one has ever filled you in on a basic concept regarding survival, so I'll do it right now: None of those above-named groups of people have sworn to destroy us. Big difference. This is what happens when you use emotions rather than intellect to arrive at your conclusions.

Go to YouTube and watch “The Canvas Prison.” This movie should be broadcast daily across the free world. Free countries should enact laws which require muslim men to be treated like muslim woman are in muslim lands, so they can be taught to appreciate freedom and learn to be humble rather then full of vanity and the foolishness of honor which causes them to be hateful and violent. But here in the real world. . .

You wrote “Please muzzie, kill me last”.

Exactly what I was thinking. They hope by appeasing those they fear that they will be killed last or can live their lives fully and die before the muzzies get to them. Which means they are selfish and don’t care about the horror they will be leaving our children.
