Who killed Chandra Levy?

Chandra Ann Levy (April 14, 1977–ca. May 1, 2001) was an intern at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Washington, D.C., who disappeared in May 2001 and is presumed murdered after her skeletal remains were found in Rock Creek Park in May 2002. The investigation led to media allegations of an extramarital affair with then-U.S. Representative Gary Condit,[1] a Democrat representing California's 18th congressional district and a senior member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Condit was never named a suspect by police and was ultimately cleared of involvement, however the cloud of suspicion raised by the intense media focus on the missing intern and the later revelation of the affair led to his loss in his 2002 re-election campaign.

The circumstances surrounding Levy's death remained unclear for many years. On March 3, 2009 D.C. police and federal prosecutors announced they had arrested Ingmar Guandique, a 27-year-old illegal immigrant from El Salvador, as a suspect in the case. Guandique's trial is scheduled for October 2010. Guandique had already been convicted of assaulting two women in Rock Creek Park around the time of the Levy disappearance.

Police interviewed Ingmar Guandique, a Salvadoran illegal alien who had been previously convicted of assaulting two other women in the same park where Levy's remains were found. District of Columbia police chief Charles H. Ramsey called him a "person of interest". Police administered a polygraph test, which Guandique passed.

The Levy homicide remained listed as a "cold case" until March 3, 2009, when the Superior Court of the District of Columbia issued an arrest warrant for Guandique.[9] On Wednesday, April 22, 2009, Guandique was charged with Chandra Levy's murder.[10] On his arraignment, where Guandique pleaded 'not guilty', a trial date was set for January 27, 2010.[11] The start date was moved to Oct 2010 due to evidence processing errors.[12]

Guandique is currently an inmate at the U.S. Penitentiary–Victorville in Adelanto, California, serving time for his earlier conviction.

2009 - MS-13 gang threatens witness in Chandra Levy case

Assistant U.S. Attorney Fernando Campoamor told a judge in D.C Superior Court that accused murderer and gang member Ingmar Guandique, 28, along with members of the MS-13 gang threatened to kill a witness and his family, if he testifies at Guandique’s January trial.

A Salvadoran national in this country illegally, Guandique was arrested last April for the murder of missing intern Chandra Levy, who disappeared in 2001. Her skeletal remains were discovered a year later in D.C.’s Rock Creek Park.

At the time of his arrest for the Levy murder, he was already in prison for the assault of two other women in Washington D.C. He was actually arrested only a few days after Levy’s disappearance on burglary charges, though law enforcement was aware of his illegal status, Immigration and Customs Enforcement was not notified due to the District’s sanctuary policy.

More and more, the issue of crime attributed to illegal aliens is and should be on the minds of millions of Americans.

While Chandra Levy may be the most well known American who has been killed by an illegal alien, she is only one in a staggeringly large and ever-growing group.

In 2005, the Government Accountability Office announced the results of a study which examined the criminal history of 55,322 illegal aliens who were incarcerated in federal, state, and local institutions during the year 2003.

The results of that aforementioned study follow:

The 55,322 illegal aliens in the study accounted for a total of 459,614 arrests (or eight arrests per illegal alien). Their arrests represented a total of nearly 700,000 criminal offenses (or 13 offenses per illegal alien). 36 percent of those studied had been arrested at least five times previously.

It will be interesting to see if police actually have some evidence linking him to the crime or if this is just CYA.

My strongest recollection of this case centers around the morning of 9/11/2001, when the gang at F&F(Fluff&Folly) was merrily destroying Mr. Condit with factless innuendo, when the first reports came in of an airplane striking the WTC tower....

While I am not totally convinced that Condit wasn't involved in the murder...

Why was this illegal not dealt with appropriately much earlier? OH - that's right. DC is a sanctuary city.

As far as I am concerned (and I am not a lawyer or judge, obviously), if a municipality chooses to take sanctuary status, then the city government from mayor/manager, down through city board/council/etc. should be criminally and civilly responsible when those they are harboring commit crimes.

Sorry....Don't believe it...She didn't have her purse or phone with her which means she was going to meet someone or they picked her up close to her place.

What I remember most was them calling off the search because of a couple of tips.

In hindsight, they were VERY, VERY close to the body when it was called off.

It means someone was watching, initiated the tips...and I'm sure that someone is/was connected to Condit.

I emailed the FBI at the time...and told them that they were nuts to call off the search.

P.S. The two tips went nowhere.

“My strongest recollection of this case centers around the morning of 9/11/2001...”

Yes, I have a memory like that too. There was a Hudson Co, NJ Pol in a peck of trouble. Janusewski was his name and he was the County Executive (if I’m remembering this right) and he was singing like a canary (or, expected to, dittos to what I said before).

And on Sept. 11th, I still bought newspapers then, I drove home from my office (right across the Hudson River from the WTC) and when I got there I looked over at the 2 newspapers on the seat next to me.

And I felt I had never seen more useless things than those 2 papers.

Carpenter's rule of thumb for illegal aliens: arrest once, deport permanently.

“Carpenter’s rule of thumb for illegal aliens: arrest once, deport permanently.”

Agreed! But not readily enforceable with the porous borders and sanctuary cities approved by the Kenyan.

The Washington, D.C. police Department has a less than 10 percent solve rate for murder.

If you were to posit that she was eaten by termites, your guess would be as good as anyone elses.

In D.C. no body and I mean NOBODY cares about the death of some white rich Jew Girl who was dating and Congressman.

We learned Condit (DEMOCRAT-CA) was a first-class sleaze even if he did/didn’t murder Chandra Levy. I also remember the ridiculous lengths the media went to portray Condit as a conservative while almost never mentioning he was a member of the DEMOCRAT party.
