HTC Planning Black Friday Launch of Chrome Tablet

More details are emerging about a Chrome OS tablet set to launch for the 2010 holiday season. If the reports are accurate, HTC, Google, and Verizon are working together to launch a Chrome OS tablet on Black Friday to kick off the holiday shopping season.

HTC has emerged as a dominant smartphone manufacturer, and reports suggest its teaming with Google and Verizon to join the tablet fray. The team of HTC, Google, and Verizon makes sense. Google has an intimate relationship with HTC--maker of many of the most cutting edge Android smartphones including the fabled Google Nexus One. Both Google and HTC have a solid relationship with Verizon--the largest wireless provider in the United States, and the leading purveyor of Android smartphones like the HTC Droid Incredible.

The HTC Chrome tablet will offer some much-needed competition for the Apple iPad. The Dell Streak is available now, but its diminutive size and phone functionality make it regarded primarily as a smartphone with a thyroid problem more than a tablet. The Samsung Galaxy Tab--an Android based tablet--is expected to launch this fall, but aside from that Apple stands virtually unopposed in the tablet arena.

HTC has always delivered solid devices.

Frankly, as a serial traveler, I like the Dell Streak, but would like a larger slate with a slide-out keyboard (soft keyboards stink -— from everyone) and a built-in phone that also slides out and shares the data connection.

Well, Nokia has something on their gear that is theirs....know nothing about it...

HP just acquired Palm and they have an operating system...

Oh and RIM has something of their own...

OH Intel and Nokia recently combined efforts on a joint thing to replace Intel's Moblin...

Here we go:

Nokia and Intel to merge Maemo, Moblin mobile operating systems

And Microsoft never gives up and they have a Windows 7 for the phones project I think.

*****************************************************

Now how is all of that for a shootout at the OK Corral?

Chrome is not an OS even though Google claims it is. Chrome is just a user interface stuck on top of a Linux OS.

Well....I say it is worth a look...Google Maps works well.

On this Ubuntu it got installed in the Internet applications ...but I just moved it onto the desktop.

I need to put some serious time into looking at it.

HTC has always delivered solid devices.

By solid it take it you mean "pretty good" instead of solid as in well-manufactured, as opposed to the HTC EVO 4Gs that are falling apart?
