-local spas see girls as young as EIGHT coming in for schooltime leg waxings-
The back to school tax free weekend is coming up, but there are some back to school essentials which are not covered by the law.
Like back to school tattoos. Or how about back to school waxings.
"Each year there are more and more kids we see coming in and getting waxings as the school year begins," says Mary Baxter of Isabel's European Day Spa. "It ranges from eyebrow waxings, to girls who are gymnasts and swimmers getting bikini waxings."
Baxter says it isn't just image conscious high schoolers who are coming in for the cosmetic treatments.
"It's anywhere from middle school through high school," she says. "We've even had younger girls, like eight or nine, getting leg waxings. The ones that are younger, it is for reasons that they are in gym or swimming, but for older girls, it's just because they want to get it done."
Baxter says waxing is gaining in popularity as girls and women want to avoid having to shave their legs.
"A lot of moms are starting their kids younger, because they don't want to deal with problems related to shaving, shaving makes their leg hair thicker," Baxter said. "I think a year or two I was kind of surprised by it, but not any more, because you see so much of it."
She says many younger girls are 'teased' in school because of the 'excessive' amount of hair growth, and waxing is a good way to avoid the bullying.
Michelle?!! Is that you? What are Malia & Sasha to do?

I am all for waxing :) I like em smooth :P
I will leave the wookies to Obama.
Waxing hurts. Owwwww. My back!
Before too many folks here get all horrified by this...about a week ago there was posted an article regarding how girls are “maturing” faster. This article would provide anecdotal evidence to support that idea.
If there is any benefit to being old and grumpy - I thank God I will not be witnessing my peer group with sagging scenes fighting for space on their varicose veined legs, arms, necks and buttocks.
Tattooing is akin to graffiti on God’s canvas.
Nearly every adult female that I know who is under about 35 has at least one permanent tattoo, and the 3rd and 4th graders either have temporary rub-on tattoos or desperately want them.
Gets them all comfortable and set-up to accept the bar codes on their foreheads and hands.
Right you are;)
When the tanning salons and tatoo parlors fall under Obamacare regulations, the barcode will be a mandatory registration (the excuse will be that all tatoos must show the origin, date and practitioner’s license #).
It’s so obvious.
I am a Esthetician I wax for a living, I would never ever wax a girls legs under the age of 15. Never!! I have waxed eyebrows of girls aged 12 up.
Bikinis/Brazilans: Under 18 I insist on talking with the mother and a release form is a must.
Ha you sound like my boyfriend.
Are Brazilans still popular?
Oh absolutley. Most of my waxing is brailians. Both Women and men.
Grammer correction: are brazilians.
This makes me feel old - and I'm only 40.
When I was growing up, the only women with tattoos were one or all of the following: prostitute, junkie or motorcycle gang property.
I still associate tattoos on women with low moral character.
It sucks to see a pretty girl inked up.
As young as 8 years old coming in for waxing and tatoos? How do they get there?
Who takes them?
Who gives permission?
Who pays for them?
The PARENTS...that’s who. Thank GOD Almighty my parents had common sense.
Brazilian waxing a man seems like the most awkward thing ever. And that is on top of the pain.
