Ha ha. They couldn't figure out how to say "football field sized"...
Any sign of Smoke Jaguar?
Cool.
The Mayans were known for creating their own version of artificial concrete from powdered limestone and likely gypsum, both of which are in abundance in the region. They made both thick slabs to build their stone temples atop, and lined their aguadas with this same mix, to limit water loss.
The technology of ceramic tile was, and still is, a big industry in central America and Mexico, especially terracotta (unglazed ceramic) tile found in the Saltillo area. Even a single family can floor their entire house with such tile, with a backyard horno oven, in just a few months. Much better than a dirt floor.
Adding such ceramic to the floor and sides of an aguadas would have significantly limited drainage.
Uh, look up "helicopter" on the interwebs, doc.
