The 12” Powerbook, as in the entire line of 12” Powerbooks, will no longer be supported?
Oh how I wish they could cram a 13” MacBook Pro logic board into a 12” Powerbook case.
Best laptop size Apple EVER made, imho.
The list forgot to include the hockey puck mouse
I was thinking along these lines friday, when a first run Ti-Book came my way at work. It’s still beautiful, 1 gig of ram. On the other hand, the G4 inside is a raging 400 Mhz, and the hard drive is 10 gigabytes. At the moment, I’m using it as a clock, running Vladstudio’s wallpaper clock. I know, I know, I just hate wasting good, older hardware.
The cost of electricity for a year is probably more than the cost of a G4 on eBay.
That was put on the obsolete list six months after it was still born in 1998... It should have been aborted while still on the drawing table. It was an uncharacteristic failure on both Jonny Ives and Steve Jobs part.
So I guess my old iBook G4 with TIGER is toast...
Anxiously awaiting today’s “event” to see what the new MacBook AIR looks like. 11.6 inch screen-reportedly. But who knows.
Whew! My Quadra 800 isn’t on the list. I guess I’ll have at least one more year of support for it, then.
Didn't see it listed, so I'm Golden!
The 12” Powerbook was a nice design; the 12” iBook only slightly less so. Unless, that is, you wanted to replace or upgrade something. I replaced hard drives three different times on two different 12” iBooks, and it’s a nightmare of several different sizes of tiny screws.
One repair tech told me there was a running joke about repairing those laptops “efficiently” by ending up with screws left over.
The Macbook [/Pro] is a lot easier to deal with. The hard drive is a user-upgradable part without messing with your warranty.
I hear ya. I had to tear mine all the way down once to get at what I thought was a faulty power module. What a pain. Had one or two screws left over but it runs.
Did like the form factor but I also Love my 13” macbook pro.
Looks like I will officially no longer be supported by Apple... (other than my iPhone 4)...
My current hardware:
iBook G4 12”, 1.33Ghz (the last of the breed)
PowerMac dual 1.8Ghz G5...
Hmmmm....
Then again - never had a need for “support” in the years I have had these machines. The only parts I have purchased - an upgrade hard drive (Best Buy), and a replacement upper shell w/trackpad - from an online outfit...
It appears that most pre-intel hardware is now officially unsupported.
Apple certainly telegraphed that when they shipped Snow Leopard, and it didn't support non-Intel Macs.
So will Lion support 32 bit Intel iMacs? We have a first generation Intel iMac. Love it. Works better than the day we got it (running Snow Leopard).
iBook G4 here. Replaced upper case as well-defective track pad. On board speakers out. Jack works as does mic.
Otherwise, flawless. Bounced around in my pickup truck, airplanes, and my own clumsiness.
